Top 20 All-Time PMA Artists
Hey there! This is Phoenix here, again hosting the festivities this year known as the Popfusion Music Awards. Tonight, however, before we get to the big date - October 22, if you didn't know - I thought we'd take a look back at some of the big artists of the past Popfusion Music Awards. Up until this point, the show has been known by the name of the previous forum, the Absolute TRL Music Awards - or, the AMAs. But now with the name change, it is now the Popfusion Music Awards. Still, all of the past honors will follow along making this year the fourth edition of the awards...just with a different name. Got it? Good!
Along with looking back at the biggest past winners, I'm also going to provide you with a 2006 PMA Forecast for each artist. This will give you a look at each artist's chances to add to their Golden A count this year, which could possibly bump their status on this list. So stay tuned; throughout the night I'll be revealing the top 20 PMA artists of all time!

Alright, let's get this countdown started, shall we?
20 | Usher Usher came out strong in 2004 with the massive hit album Confessions. The 2nd Annual Popfusion Music Awards were no exception, as Usher garnered 7 nominations. So with 7 nominations, why is Usher number 20 on the list of all-time PMA artists? Because of those 7 nominations, Usher only walked away with a win for Best Male R&B Song, "Burn". Still, 7 nominations is quite an achievement, and got Usher on the bottom of the list.
2006 PMA Forecast: Impossible Usher released no new material within the eligibility date, which means he may soon be dropping out of the top 20.
19 | Destiny's Child Undisputedly one of the biggest selling female group acts of all time, Destiny's Child made their mark on the 2005 edition of the PMAs. With 3 nominations, Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle walked away with 2 wins that transcended both the R&B and Pop categories. With such talent and versatility, the announcement of their disbandment was heartbreaking not only to fans, but to the possibility of more Golden As down the road.
2006 PMA Forecast: Slim "Stand Up For Love" was a part of the 64-Song Viewer's Choice Tournament, but whether it will stand up for a nomination this year has yet to be seen.
18 | Shania Twain 2003 was one of the only two years that had a Country category, and Shania Twain took full advantage. She took home two of her three nominations, including Best Female Country Song and Best Country Album. One has to wonder if Shania would have been further up the list had the Country genre continued through the years.
2006 PMA Forecast: Slim Country will be making a return at this year's awards, but will Shania be a part of it or be left out of this party?
17 | Amerie Amerie had 3 nominations in 2005, but it was quite possibly her win for Best Female R&B Song that was the biggest upset in PMA history. To win the award, Amerie stopped one of the juggernauts of 2005 in Mariah Carey. Also taking home Best Song From a Film for the same song, "1 Thing", Amerie solidified her position in the top 20 of all-time.
2006 PMA Forecast: Slim Amerie's other singles from the Touch album are eligible, but will "Touch" or "Talkin About" be strong enough to earn a nomination this year? With the competition at hand, again including Mariah, not likely.
16 | The Game Few rappers garner as much buzz as The Game did before his debut album The Documentary even hit stores. One such rapper, 50 Cent, comes to mind, but he has yet to get a win from any of his six all-time nominations. The Game, on the other hand, has two Golden As for two different songs, locking him in the 16 all-time spot.
2006 PMA Forecast: Slim "One Blood" was recently released and eligible, but it may be too little, too late for The Game this year.
Stay tuned - we have more coming up!

15 | Justin Timberlake The previously-monikered new Prince of Pop has tossed his crown and dedicated himself to breaking the mold. But in 2003, it was the R&B/pop-fusion-centered Timberlake that earned him 5 nominations and 2 wins, including Best R&B Album for Justified. His other win was for his massive smash hit, "Cry Me A River", which won for Best Male R&B Song.
2006 PMA Forecast: Fair Though Justin's new album FutureSex/LoveSounds won't be eligible, his new hit single "SexyBack" is, and is already well on it's way to at least a Viewer's Choice nomination.
14 | Alicia Keys Alicia Keys may not have had the most nominations in 2004, but she is the first artist in the All-Time Top 20 to take home the coveted Album of the Year award for The Diary of Alicia Keys. She scored another win for "If I Ain't Got You", which won Best Female R&B Song.
2006 PMA Forecast: Slim Her MTV Unplugged special rolled off the new hit "Impossible", but facing touch competition, Alicia may find herself looking on as a spectator at this year's show.
13 | My Chemical Romance The 2005 awards were MCR's opportunity to break out and they did just that. With a pack-leading seven nominations, MCR looked to destroy the competition. At the end of the night, however, MCR left with only two Golden As: Best Group Rock Song ("The Ghost of You") and a well-deserved Best New Artist.
2006 PMA Forecast: Impossible But expect to hear from the boys again in 2007.
12 | Beyonce Destiny's Child had their own success, but Beyonce has also had her own. And as far as the Popfusion Music Awards go, Beyonce's been better off solo than with her girls. Alone, Beyonce has garnered 7 nominations (4 in 2003 and 3 in 2004). She went home empty-handed in '04, but took home 2 Golden As in 2003, including Song of the Year for "Crazy In Love" with beau Jay-Z.
2006 PMA Forecast: Good B'day, Beyonce's second solo album, won't be eligible until 2007, but the first single "Deja Vu" may very well make an impact.
11 | Mariah Carey Near the end of 2004, Mariah Carey made one of the biggest comebacks in music history. She went through every awards show and ramsacked the hardware, and looked to do the same at the 2005 PMAs with seven nominations. In the end, she took home two trophies; one for Best R&B Album and the second-ever Billboard Award.
2006 PMA Forecast: Fair Mariah had a couple hits lingering from The Emancipation of Mimi that were eligible, but it remains to be seen if they will make the cut.

Let's move right along, shall we?
10 | Gwen Stefani Though No Doubt have been past PMA nominees (and winners) in the past, Gwen Stefani sought out solo success and had great results. As far as the PMAs go, 2005 was almost Gwen's year as she came in with 7 nominations. She walked out with two wins, including Song of the Year for the infectious "Hollaback Girl".
2006 PMA Forecast: Impossible Gwen's been on baby duty since the last edition of the PMAs, but she could be back in the saddle for 2007.
9 | Maroon 5 Maroon 5 came on the scene with a blast, and to date have garnered seven nominations. They went home with nothing to show for their three nominations in 2003, but in 2004 they redeemed themselves. That year, they took home two of the biggest awards of the night, including the first ever Billboard Award, and the coveted Artist of the Year.
2006 PMA Forecast: Impossible Maroon 5 has been touring and working on new material, but none has yet to surface for eligibility this year.
8 | Green Day In 2005, four artists simultaneously lead the pack of nominees. Green Day, although they had a huge year themselves, sat back with only four nominations. However, they were four big nominations, and they certainly scored where it mattered. in 2005, Green Day took home the Golden As for Best Rock Album and the big one, Album of the Year, for their masterpiece American Idiot.
2006 PMA Forecast: Impossible Green Day is working on their follow-up to the massive smash album that won last year's top honor, but 2006 eligibility is out of the question.
7 | Christina Aguilera For her breakout album Stripped, Christina dropped the image that everyone had of her and got completely raw. It worked, and in 2003 - her only year nominated to date for a Golden A - she received 6 nominations. Christina/Britney feud purists had a field day in 2003 when the two pop divas clashed over Best Female Pop Song. Christina may have lost that battle but she gained so much more, earning two of the biggest awards of the night, Best Pop Album and Album of the Year.
2006 PMA Forecast: Great With a new hit in "Ain't No Other Man" and her album Back To Basics generating massive buzz, not only is Christina almost a lock for at least one nomination this year, but she could get the chance to become the first artist to win Album of the Year twice.
6 | Kanye West Call him cocky. Call him arrogant. You can call him whatever you want, but between 2004 and 2005, Kanye West has earned a tie for the most all-time nominations of any artist. From his whopping eleven nominations, Kanye has only won two. However, so far on the list, he is the only artist to win a Golden A in more than one year. In 2004 he won Best New Artist. In 2005 he validated it by taking hom Best Rap/Hip-Hop Album for Late Registration.
2006 PMA Forecast: Fair "Touch The Sky" and "Drive Slow" are lingering as possible nominations for Kanye, but tough competition may keep Kanye from being nominated for the first time in two years.
Stay tuned - we have more coming up!

This is it - who's going to be number one? We're almost at the end!
5 | Black Eyed Peas The Black Eyed Peas are high on this list because they have accomplished a feat to which no other artist can lay claim: they have a 100% win rate for their nominations at the PMAs. In all three years the PMAs have been in existence, BEP has won the Best Group Rap/Hip-Hop Song Award. First for "Shut Up", then "Hey Mama", and for "Don't Phunk With My Heart" in 2005, the Black Eyed Peas appear to have no intent of slowing down any time soon.
2006 PMA Forecast: Great "My Humps" was a big smash and has been ripping through the Viewer's Choice Tournament. It could very well continue BEP's reign over the Best Group Rap/Hip-Hop Song Award.
4 | Evanescence In 2003, Evanescence had a win rate that rivaled BEP's all-time rate. Out of four nominations in 2003, Evanescence took home three Golden As, including Best Rock Album for Fallen. They followed up with three more nominations in 2004, but only took home one Golden A for Best Group Rock Song ("Everybody's Fool").
2006 PMA Forecast: Slim Evanescence has barely been on the radar as of late, but a late entry in the single "Call Me When You're Sober" from their upcoming album The Open Door could reintroduce the PMAs to Evanescence before they storm the awards in 2007.
3 | Kelly Clarkson The first American Idol has proved to be quite the force to be reckoned with when it comes to the PMAs. She is tied for second place in the most nominations garnered by a single artist with 8. Interestingly enough, only one of those nominations came in 2004 (where she won for Best Song From A Film for "Breakaway"). She followed up with a massive seven nominations in 2005 and took home three huge awards: Best Female Pop Song and Viewer's Choice for "Since U Been Gone", and an extremely deserving Artist of the Year.
2006 PMA Forecast: Fair Kelly's Breakaway success has some hits still lingering. "Walk Away" could very well earn Kelly a few nominations, but with such stiff competition in the Pop category this year, her 2005 dominance may have come and gone.
2 | OutKast Arguably the most successful hip-hop group of all time, OutKast is also one of the most successful PMA artists of all time. They were up for 3 Golden As in 2004, yet went home with nothing. It was 2003, however, that belonged to OutKast. Nominated for an all-time record eight nominations, OutKast took home 5 awards including Viewer's Choice ("Hey Ya"), Best Rap/Hip-Hop Album, and Artist of the Year. Christina Aguilera's Album of the Year win may have stolen some of their thunder, but 2003 was clearly the year of OutKast.
2006 PMA Forecast: Decent One can never count out OutKast, and it may very well be likely that the hip-hop duo could see their first nominations since 2004 with their recently released Idlewild album.
1 | Britney Spears An ATRL favorite whose legacy in pop culture is still being written, Britney Spears is to date the top all-time PMA artist. With eight all-time nominations, 2 in 2003 and 6 in 2004, Britney has taken home a leading six Golden A trophies. In 2003, the first single from her In The Zone album dropped just in time for eligibility, and she took home two wins for both her nominations, Best Dance Song and Best Female Pop Song for the Madonna-featured "Me Against The Music". Then, in 2004, Britney took home 4 awards. The most significant feature of those four awards is that three of them were for the same song: "Toxic" earned Britney the Golden As for Best Solo Pop Song, Viewer's Choice, and Song of the Year. Britney's fourth win that year? Best Pop Album. She may have lost out on Artist and Album of the Year, but the four awards that Britney won in 2004 helped make her the queen of that night, and assisted in making her the top PMA artist of all time.
2006 PMA Forecast: Impossible Like Gwen Stefani, Britney has been on baby duty and enjoying married life with husband Kevin Federline. But with an album due in 2007, it is possible that Britney could return next year to defend (or, at that point, regain) her crown as the top PMA artist of all time.
That's it for the Top 20 All-Time PMA Artists. But how will this list change? Who will be nominated this year? And who will take home a Golden A? There's only one way to find out. Be here LIVE at 7:30 on Sunday, October 22nd for the 2006 Popfusion Music Awards. The 4th Annual edition of the awards is going to be the biggest and baddest yet, and we'll be giving away more Golden As than ever before. You won't want to miss one minute of it and I don't want you to miss it either.
But mark September 19th in your calendar too; that's the date when I'll be right back here to reveal to you the nominees for the 4th Annual PMAs. Hopefully I'll see you then!

She does deserve it. I'm so sad I don't have AIM so I can't see the nominations first, or among the first. Phoenix, how long after you put them on the chatroom will you post them here?

I didn't pick the top (believe me), the list was assembled by past wins and nominations.
