Thank you, Ciara, for the week's reminder that Nicki Minaj remains one of the most technically thrilling rappers alive in spite of the overwhelming disapproval directed toward her radio-pop empire. The pair have teamed up for a track on Ciara's upcoming album, but the show is all Nicki's. It's got everything you might have enjoyed about the deluxe edition of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (think "The Boys", "I'm Legit", "I Endorse These Strippers")-- brash, fizzy layers criss-crossing into oblivion, shoulder-brushing, a female call to arms, and an effortlessly brassy barrage of lines from Minaj. Her arsenal is bottomless.
Pitchfork stans pop music and has always liked Nicki. Her albums good good scores from them and her tracks make it on their year end lists.
If I recall correctly, their issue with Nicki was she's a lazy popstar that doesn't do her pop songs justice, which is why they want her to focus on her easier rapping.

I think you're just seeing what you want to see.
They want Nicki to do less phoned-in, crappy dance pop songs and stick to her strengths- which is serving fiery bars in hip hop tracks. If she could bring that same energy to a pop formula, that would be fantastic, but she hasn't (we'll always have Superbass).
As pointed out more than once in here P4K has always liked Nicki. They panned her albums as they should have, but recognize the sheer genius of her psychotic rap persona when she ditches the pop.
Come on a Cone & Beez in a Trap have gotten Best New Track last year. Both are also the best songs she's done imo.. I'm surprised they recognize it. Most people dismiss Come on a Cone, but it's flawless P4K is the one of the few outlets that got it right on Nicki
