"Grown Woman" receives rave reviews
Quote:
The pop superstar today dropped "Grown Woman," a feisty tribal beat-driven track co-written by The-Dream and produced by Timbaland. It’s full of an energy that'll inevitably draw comparisons with "Single Ladies."
Beyonce's full of confidence as she sings: “I’m a grown woman, I do whatever I want.” Who would argue. She's at the pinnacle of pop music, the matriarch of a music dynasty.

In contrast to the lacquered surfaces of The 20/20 Experience, ‘Grown Woman’ sees Timbo on playful and experimental form, crafting an instrumental that’s two parts moombahton, one part Song Of The South. B, aided and abetted by The-Dream, continues to push the warrior queen motifs found on ‘Run The World (Girls)’ and ‘Bow Down/I Been On’.

Now there's an alleged leak of the actual song, and listening to it is a lot more fun than watching shaky concert videos or soda commercials.
Lyrically, it's a less grandiose continuation of "Run the World (Girls)" — it's also impossible to hear "bitches, I run this" without thinking of non-single "Bow Down" — but the beat certainly feels like new territory for Bey. While listening on repeat, feel free to imagine Beyoncé clicking "upload" right as she closes out of a pregnancy rumor post, looking over at Jay-Z and slyly quoting Don Draper/Peggy Olson: "If you don't like what they're saying, change the conversation."

The song itself is a kind of marvel, transition from generic pop hit, to something more tribal in nature. The drum work is bound to thrust your hips into motion, and as soon as the vocals hit you’re consumed with the knowledge no one can deliver a hit quite like Beyonce. You can stream “Grown Woman” below.
Bey’s camp is keeping quiet about where “Grown Woman” may end up, but for now it’s the soundtrack to our office parties.

It’s a frenetic, globetrotting dance track with a tribal rhythm, chants and a descending bass line that sounds like a sped up version of the one in Justin Timberlake‘s “Pusher Love Girl.” A feisty Bey declares “I can do whatever I wawnt,” and that includes giving us a song that sounds nothing like what anyone was expecting. It’s almost like this track is destined to be the theme song to the next Women’s World Cup or something.

Beyoncé's "Grown Woman" is a thrilling 5 minutes of African-style drum and vocals (if the leak is real)
Timbaland-helmed track is better than the Pepsi ad
Given Bey's aggressive media aversion recently, it's of course unclear whether this "official" version is truly official, but it's the best we've got, and it's a thrilling five minutes, winding up in an African-style percussion-and-vocal breakdown.

My thoughts exactly. The theme/motif along with the instrumentals, even down to the tribal beats, seem redundant to her previous masterpieces. RTW >

The funny thing is, some pop girls can release the same style songs that everyone else is releasing over and over and that's okay. But pretty much the two tribal-esque songs released in the last two years being from the same artist is redundant.

Hopefully it grows on me once the album cut, since it's an unofficial cut . 1 thing you can't deny Beyonce takes the most risk in her music than most if not all the pop girls.

I MOSTLY agree, but Diplo really does some of his worst work with the bigger pop acts. I don't know what happens but he just crashes and burns so often. RTW belongs on a mixtape, not an album.
