If someone smokes themselves to the point where their lungs develop cancer or collapse, then yes, I'd say the responsibility is on them. If someone drinks their livers into failing then yes, I'd say the responsibility is on them. I'm by no means saying
all surgeries for these kinds of conditions should be stopped, I'm just saying that at some point the patient needs to take responsibility for his or her actions. Of course it's sad that certain circumstances befell this guy which led him to develop a compulsive eating disorder, but there are opportunities for these kinds of ailments to be treated specifically to
prevent people getting this obese, just as there are groups like AA for alcoholics as well as countless treatments for nicotine addicts.
