Ok listen up kid. As a person like him, you don't really notice the fact that ure getting bigger and bigger. You start as a skinny person, and as the years go you gain more and more weight- without even noticing it or even bothering. One day, you see the scale and then everything is too late.

Firstly, don't call me 'kid' in an attempt to patronize me. It only belittles your own argument.

Secondly, regardless of whatever mental state people are in when they find themselves in this position, ultimately greed/food addiction or whatever the circumstance is a superficial one and it certainly is not one which warrants £60,000 of the taxpayers money to treat a single patient. How many life-saving heart transplants could that pay for? That money could be saving lives, not just removing a DISGUSTING 8 stone of excess skin from the former world's fattest man.

He must have had some kind of condition that made him eat so much, regular healthy people do not eat that much for no reason. The NHS is there to take care of people and provide medical services, he should have the operation done.

You can't just "lose" saggy skin Not this much, you need surgery.

Then seek treatment for the disorder. Nobody forces people to consume 20,000 calories a day, ultimately that responsibility falls on the consumer even if they do have an eating disorder. Dealing with that would be seeking help for the disorder before it turns you into the world's fattest man.

I feel for him, but this should not cost the taxpayers anything. Maybe he can try to do a fundraiser or try to get donations, but no public money should be used.

Ok so the responsibility is on the consumer. I guess we should stop paying for surgeries for past smokers, past alcoholics, people who got into accidents that were their own fault, etc.

It seems to me you don't have a problem with the principle of the surgery (skin removal), just the scale. Well, there's always going to be extremes in every case, and you just need to deal with them. If this is deemed too expensive a surgery, then where do we stop?

I really doubt 60k is going to bankrupt the NHS and cause many others to die, if they lowered the salary of every politician by 0.1% they'd make up way more than that.

If someone smokes themselves to the point where their lungs develop cancer or collapse, then yes, I'd say the responsibility is on them. If someone drinks their livers into failing then yes, I'd say the responsibility is on them. I'm by no means saying all surgeries for these kinds of conditions should be stopped, I'm just saying that at some point the patient needs to take responsibility for his or her actions. Of course it's sad that certain circumstances befell this guy which led him to develop a compulsive eating disorder, but there are opportunities for these kinds of ailments to be treated specifically to prevent people getting this obese, just as there are groups like AA for alcoholics as well as countless treatments for nicotine addicts.

Actually no. He had surgery to lose the weight. They reconnect your stomach to your intestines in varying ways to limit your food/nutrient intake. He basically did nothing.
