The sad thing the Academy takes critically and commercial success very seriously.

i don't doubt its going to be a hit on the box office but their is no point of it when the reviews aren't great.

I'm not really surprised. In the end the entire film amounted to just a whole lot of overhyped eye-vomit. Big name stars, big names in the soundtrack, more CG than your overpriced 3D theatre glasses can handle- it's just a lot for what's a pretty middling high school-level novel (imo).

I saw it today.

The cinematography, costumes (Prada!

), and music were incredible, but it fell flat for me when it came to the actual plot and writing. If you strip away the glossy visuals, there wasn't much there. I'm sure it will win many awards, but only in the visual and technical categories.

I only read the book once, 3 or 4 years ago in high school, but I remember it being a lot more profound than this film. I don't know. I liked the film and appreciated what they were doing, but I just felt like it should have been more

It was a really slow book movie anyway. It could literally be summed up in 4 sentences.

A man with a suspicious past fell in love with a girl, so he throws parties every night to find her. He uses his new neighbor to find her again and help him get in with wall street so he can keep getting funding. He finds the girl and tries to make her tell her new man that she never loved him because she knows he's cheating. After a fight, they run over another girl, who's husband kills Gatsby.

I know it's not everything, but a damn good summary for a book that damn long.

I don't know what y'all were really expecting if you read the book.

Tbh, here in Bulgaria everybody awaits for the Great Gatsby premiere. It's not all about the critical acclaim.

I just looked it up and found out it's only 180 pages.

I could have sworn it was like 700.

Maybe it's because I didn't really like reading when I had to read it for class.
