In keeping with this year’s Met Costume Institute exhibit theme – Punk: Chaos to Couture – guests at the annual Met Gala called on their designer pals and stylists edge up their looks for the red carpet, and the results were a mixed bag.
While some attendees punked out of the challenge, the ones who went there, went there. From Sarah Jessica Parker’s mohawk topper to Miley Cyrus’ mesh dress, see the stars who stayed on theme and vote for your favorite.
1. Madonna
Madonna accessorized her studded Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy haute couture jacket with little else than thigh-high tights, pink Casadei pumps, and a few well-placed chains. The pop star’s severe black bob hairstyle completed the look.
2. January Jones
January Jones rocked a Chanel couture dress and Nicholas Kirkwood heels, adding dramatic eye makeup for an extra edge.
3. Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus — who has been headed for full-out punk since she chopped her hair last summer — wore a black mesh gown by Marc Jacobs and styled her short crop into spikes for a look she said was inspired by The Addams Family’s Morticia.
4. Sarah Jessica Parker
“I wanted to embrace the theme,” said Sarah Jessica Parker, who went all out in a grafitti print Giles Deacon gown, plaid Christian Louboutin boots and the night’s best accessory: a mohawk headdress by Philip Treacy.
5. Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway showcased her newly platinum hair with a vintage Valentino dress from 1992, explaining that she was channeling punk icon Debbie Harry.
