will.i.am has admitted breach of copyright on the track 'Let' Go' from his new album #willpower.
The producer explained that he is now "fixing" the Chris Brown-featured song, which uses elements of Arty & Mat Zo's 'Rebound'.
Speaking to Kiss FM, he said: "So this song by Chris Brown 'Let's Go'. Arty is a dope producer so I wrote this song to rebound this last year.
"I got in touch with Arty and showed it to him, did a different version to it 'cause I asked him [to] make it newer 'cause I don't just wanna take your song and rap over it. But we did that, we collaborated.
"But in a year's time, time's gone by [and] we preferred writing over and using the [original] rebound. Something happened and the clearance… hopefully we resolved the issue.
"I'm a fan of Arty; I think he's great and the world needs to know about how talented those guys are. It's sad that it's turned into a fiasco but hopefully it's resolved because I'm a fan of those guys to the point where I wrote to their instrumental."
Asked if he had originally collaborated with Arty on the song, he replied: "No, I heard his 'Rebound' and then wrote a song to it and then contacted them last year. A year has passed and we're fixing it now."
Why would you let something that you are THIS aware about just slip by? Sounds just pretty silly on his part because he was completely aware of what was happening and his explanation makes absolutely no sense.
He can't have just forgotten, music goes through so many stages of development and mixing and mastering, listening and sequencing, (and getting clearance, ahem) but if that's what actually happened, then that's just really stupid of him.
If you don't have the courtesy to clear a sample when you have a legal team and label to do it for you then DON'T USE IT in the first place OR release the song as a free download, giving credit for the sample.
Sampling without crediting the original artist is musical fraud - selling something you're marketing as YOUR OWN and ORIGINAL when it's someone else's.

How could he not contact the guy again after blatantly using his sample? He says he contacted him before And yet Arty's name is nowhere in the credits his story doesn't add up. Did he think the guy just wouldn't notice because time had passed?Arty's statement contradicts this one.

Couldn't agree more. You're right. But I am still dying to know how Will can fix it now since the album is already out. Plus, his story is way different of what Arty said.
