Hilary Duff talks to Entertainment Tonight
Teen sensation HILARY DUFF is all grown up and showing off a new, more mature look these days -- find out how the 'Cheaper by the Dozen 2' star juggles her career and love life as our VANESSA MINNILLO sits down with the mini mogul for an exclusive one-on-one interview!
The 18-year-old actress and singer is set to make a big splash in the business world; she became the chief executive and designer of her own fashion and lifestyle company last year, and is set to launch a new fall line of merchandise ranging from clothing to room decor under her label "Stuff by Hilary Duff."
"Basically, the line is for girls that are seven to 14," she says. "I've actually been doing it for awhile. This is the launch of the new stuff for fall; it comes out this month in stores." Hilary's "Stuff" can be found at Wal-Mart and Claire's stores.
Hilary says the inspiration for the line was born out of her frustration as a young girl who wanted to dress up like her big sister. "When I was younger, all I wanted to do was dress like my sister [HAYLIE]," she tells ET. "There were no clothes that fit younger girls really well that were fashionable and not so generic. We really focused on the structure of everything and the way it feels, the color scheme, and making sure that there are categories for girls with all different kinds of styles."
With products aimed at preteen girls, she's mindful of age-appropriate attire. "I love to keep my look fresh and fashionable, but I won't show a lot of skin," Hilary says. "With my 'Stuff by Hilary Duff' line, girls can look super stylish without wearing things that their moms will cringe at."
New this fall, her first signature scent! "[The new fragrance] is a little more exotic," she says. "We didn't use so many flowers. The fragrance is called 'With Love.' It was cool because I got to design the bottle and all the packaging!"
Clearly excited about her new line, Hilary says the best part of her retail business venture is the casual office attire. "Designing the clothing line was so exciting for me because I didn't have to show up and look a certain way to go to work," she says. "I didn't have to worry about doing an interview or people seeing me on camera."
All that will soon change, however, and she'll be right back in the spotlight. Hilary is fast at work on a new album and will appear in the upcoming 'Material Girls' with older sister Haylie. The pair will play heiresses who are stripped of their family fortune.
With her line of "Stuff," upcoming music and movie projects, Hilary says it's hard to make time for her boyfriend, GOOD CHARLOTTE singer JOEL MADDEN.
"We really understand each other's schedules," she says. "I'm really focused on what I'm doing, and he is as well. I think we realize that if we want to be in a relationship -- no matter who it's going to be with -- it's going to be like this."
Although she's just coming into womanhood, this is one hot Hollywood star that seems to have a solid head on her shoulders! Fortunately, Hilary and Joel have been able to get some quality time together lately.
"Right now he's making a record and he's in L.A.," she says. "So it's nice that I can stop by and we can see each other. When we start traveling and touring and stuff, that's when it gets hard."
For more with Hilary, watch tonight's ET!
I'm excited to smell the perfume & also for her new album.
