Singer-songwriter John Mayer is getting ready to release a brand new record this fall.
Mayer is releasing the follow up to his 2003 release Heavier Things which included the 2005 Grammy Award winner for Song of the Year “Daughters.”
Last year Mayer toured with musical veterans, drummer Steve Jordan and bassist Pino Palladino as the John Mayer Trio moved in a slightly different musical direction and into a more bluesy sound. That sound will sneak its way onto Mayer’s new record Continuum which was co-produced by fellow trio member Steve Jordan.
The record, due out September 12th, is preceded by his first single “Waiting on the World to Change” which is set to hit the radio on July 10th. Members of Mayer’s fan club Local-83 got a sneak peek, or should I say a sneak listen, to the new tune when it streamed on the “members only” website June 14th. The single is also currently streaming on John Mayer’s official website and MySpace.
Mayer will also embark on a tour behind the new record, hitting the road with alt-rock heavyweight and recent cancer survivor Sheryl Crow this fall. The tour will have only one Canadian stop in Vancouver on September 22nd.
Not quite, Luisedo. This will follow up the album Try! from last year. I have not heard the lead single yet, but it is charting Top 10 already on the Billboard dailies. Looks like another #1 for him.
I love "Waiting On The World To Change." I never seem to give this guy a chance. I liked all of his singles yet I still don't respect him enough to buy his albums. Maybe I should make a change.
His radio singles have been jokes in my opinion. Almost like he throws out his worst stuff to laugh at his inept management. But his guitar skills and most of his writing can match about anyone.
I also agree that he doesn't release the best singles. Your Body Is A Wonderland was just.. a joke. I also think that Clarity and Daughters were very boring songs.
Bigger Than My Body, No Such Thing, Waiting On The World To Change are his better singles ^___^
Clarity was the strongest off 'Heavier Things'.
But much like 'Waiting On The World To Change', it's not meant for radio.
Sometimes I wonder though, is John Mayer meant for radio?
I mean, we have Teddy Geiger to satisfy the kiddies now. (but cmon, 'These Walls' is a pretty great tune)
But in all honesty, John Mayer is a credible, talented musician. If he doesn't score radio hits, who cares. His music is incredible. I wouldn't doubt 'Waiting On The World To Change' scores a grammy nod.
Clarity is very strong. I would also nominate Who Did You Think I Was, My Stupid Mouth (original version), Why Georgia, 83, and the remake of Ray Charles's I Got A Woman as his best performances.
Mayer would also agree that his worst works are being played on radios. But his management wanted it that way. Try! was Mayer's way of getting back at them I think.
