For the longest time, I ignored Beyonce because her music at first glance didn't appeal to me. But recently, after her amazing Superbowl performance, I've begun listening to songs here and there from her on Spotify, and I'm hooked.
I have a little bit of spending money to buy one album, but I don't know which one to start with. Can you guys recommend one?
Beyonce's best album, as you might have heard, is "4". Her best vocal performances and instrumentals to date. She really demonstrates her creativity and her musicianship.
It depends on what your prefer. If you want more uptempo songs and you enjoy her funk, upbeat hip-hop/R&B sound, then get B'Day. It's severely underrated. But, if you like her slower songs, the quiet storm, electronic R&B ballads, get 4. It has a few mid and uptempos too and it's her best album yet.
B'Day for that signature Beyonce sound, 4 for a mature and cohesive sound; I Am Sasha Fierce for a more mainstream and versatile Bey & Dangerously in Love for some RnB throwbacks.
Personally I have the most tracks from 4, I'll probably just end up with the whole album some day. So I'd recommend 4.
Buuut if you really plan on listening to all of her music, I always enjoy carefully working through an artist's discography in order and letting each album soak in for a little while. It's the best way
