Lady GaGa is only relevant for the LGTB community, and promote her material exclusively to them.
Beyoncé has been releasing female empowerment anthems for 5 years straight, ain't no dude is gonna sing about being a grown woman or how girls rule the world.
Britney is the poster popstar for closeted teens during the 00s.
Christina has been aggresively unnatractive since the B2B era ended.
Avril stays stays being the girly, emo princess that walked the land in 07/08.
ANd then you have Rihanna:
- She's mad hot;
- She's oozes sex;
- She has a strong, defiant, almost manly personality, BUT manages to always exude some kind of hypnotic femeinity;
- Her material is universal. Guys can cheer to the freaking weekend and blast WFL to the max while they ride to the club;
- Even when her material is female oriented, guys embraces them because it has mad attitude (i.e. "Only Girl");
- Guys are not ashamed of being vocal about them listening to Rihanna, posting her videos on facebook and tweeting or using song phrases as fb status, whereas you don't see guys doing the same for the rest of the girls (maybe Nicki, and that's it).

So, are we the key to Rihanna's never ending reign?

Don't know if I agree with your points but surely Rihanna caters to more straights than anyone. So yeah my queen slays in that area. However, Gaga used to cater to a lot of straights until she started to dismiss that part of the fanbase and call everyone gay. I didn't like that but I could get over it since I love her music.

Actually I agree with him. I used to listen to Gaga a lot when she first came up, I even had lots of demos before The Fame was even released.
I liked her hipster self during the start of that era, but I was then put off by the try-hardness she embraced to be succesfull.

I have a very wide group of friends, and I never heard them blasting RTW or anything from her bar CIL, SL and Ego (but mainly Kanye's part).

Lady Gaga's base used to be like 90% straights. Then BTW came, and the gays all came to her.

I came during Love Game single era, but I hate Love Game, although that was the time I first heard Just Dance and Paparazzi.

Rih attracts lots of straights. (Like me)

But the Navy seems to think that the base is 99% gay, yet it's only on this site. In realm life like 75% of her fans are straights.

I agree, RiRi is pretty much modern pop's everywoman. Hard, "edgy" (whatever that means these days) but still appealing to a wide range of people from casual pop consumers to urban audiences to the fickle gay fanbases. While her widespread appeal says a degree about how 'edgy' she actually is, we all know how her personal life both courts and invites controversy and even cultural discussion.

While the other girls generally have their own territories and niche roles in the pop music landscape (Gaga's growing roots in flambouyant, anthemic dancepop territory with an eye for stadium-rock epicness, Beyonce with r&b-funk empowerment anthems and devotional peons, etc), Rihanna has remained pop music's chameleon, never settling into a specific role or image for too long before moving on and taking mainstream pop culture with her.

I'm British and straight and I love Rihanna. I think her appeal is that she doesn't have a particular type of fan, and anybody can like her, from little boys and girls (despite being inappropriate listening) to chavs to businessmen and women to gym-types to housewives to elderly people.

Artists like Lady Gaga make people like me feel left out, because I'm not LGBT or part of a particularly sub-culture.
