Fremantle Home Entertainment's Pete Kalhan, their Senior Vice
President, has informed Home Media Retailing trade magazine
that the 5th Season of American Idol will come to DVD! No
scheduling or content information is available just yet, but Kalhan
noted that this was made possible by successful sales of both The Best
and Worst of American Idol Seasons 1-
4 and the recent American Idol All-Star Challenge interactive DVD
board game (from the makers of SceneIt?). Stay tuned and we will
bring you more about this as developments occur!

I think this is great. Season 5 isn't the best season to put out, but since it was the highest rated, I understand why it's coming first. I'm so excited though to finally have the seasons on DVD. I'm surprised it took so long.
Season 1, 2, & 3 should be out before that horrible season.
season 1 was released, but only bits of it. the dvd only featured kelly, justin, nikki, christina, and ryan starr. the rest of the finalists didnt make it.
*Cough Cough* Just download the seasons. *Cough Cough* For free. *Cough Cough*
The 5th season had a good top 12, but the winner of the show was poorly choosen. Taylor was not choosen by talent, he was selected by his overrated popularity. He should've came in no further than 8th or 9th place.
But this idea of making season DVDs should've been enacted back in season 2.
And the Best and Worst of American Idol DVDs were not made well. This is one of the US's biggest shows and they slapped something together which contains a lackluster amount of materials.
I don't think it was as bad of a season as you all think, even though it wasn't amazing. I think Katharine is the best Idol to ever grace the stage, so that should be worthy enough to release on DVD.
Actually the third one was. This is in a close 2nd though
Have to agree with you there. Though Season Five was the one that turned me away from Idol for good, Season 3 was so, so bad. But I watched BECAUSE it was that bad.
Season 5 is underrated, and it also produced my favorite idol contestant yet. It was certainly better than seasons 3, 4 and 1 where there were only a few good contestants (I didn't even like anyone specifically from season 4 at all, but I loved J Hud from season 3, Kelly and Christina from season 1 and Kimberly Locke from season 2).
