News: Bryan County toddler killed by 7 pit bulls identified

Bryan County Sheriff Clyde Smith identified the toddler killed after being attacked and mauled by her family’s seven pit bulls in north Bryan County Wednesday afternoon as Monica Renee Laminack this morning.

According to Bryan County Deputy Sheriff James Beatty a call was placed to 911 at 6:24 p.m. yesterday reporting the incident but when the EMTs arrived at the Elm Road home the child was already dead.

“When we got here and spoke to EMS, they told us that when they got here, she was already cold. There was nothing they could do,” Beatty said Wednesday.

The attack was discovered when Laminack’s grandmother woke up, looked out a back window and saw the dogs with the girl. The grandmother and others rushed outside to pull the dogs off the child, however their actions were too late to save her Beatty said.

How Laminack, who would have turned 2-years-old in June, ended up the backyard alone with the dogs is unknown.

All seven dogs were euthanized yesterday. Smith said this morning that he took full responsibility for putting the dogs down.

The sheriff added that the investigation into Laminack’s death was not complete, and that a decision as what charges may be filed would be made after consulting the district attorney

i wonder what happened ? i mean i know familys that have had numerous pit bulls and they never present such behavior and actions .... hm regardless my prayers go out to the family and for that innocent soul

I've met many pitbulls that are really sweet and gentle. I guess it all depends on how the owner raises them.

the local news article I saw said the house was full with 5 other adults yet a 12 year old was put in charge of watching the baby. the grandma was upstairs and woke up from her nap yelling down that, "theyre killing the baby!"

So sad.

I own a beautiful pitbull, found him on the streets when he was 1 pretty beat up (looked like whoever owned him used him to fight). We got him cleaned up and taken care of by a vet. My dad's in the Air Force and had the K9 trainer come check him out to make sure there were no aggression issues and he did amazing, she pulled his tail, ears, opened his mouth, pushed him around a little bit, took his toys, took his food and he was so calm. Our neighbor had their little kids over and I was a little nervous but he was just licking them and rubbing against them. He's such a good dog. I hate to hear these stories because they seem to always involve pits, I really believe it's all in how you raise a dog, show it so much love and it'll be a sweetheart but treat it "like a pit" being rough or whatever and there'll be aggression.

RIP to that poor baby. Waiting to hear the charges that come against the parents.

So not only is a BABY dead because of the absolute stupidity of these "adults", but SEVEN dogs as well. Everyone's going to be saying those poor people and sending them flowers and ****. I say lock them all up for life.

I just....SMH doesn't even come close to expressing how I feel about this.

That's so sad. It's a terrible way to go, and why on earth would you put a 12 year old in charge when you know that there are 7 pit bulls?
Stories like this both make me sad and piss me off.

SMH. The parents are cruel for leaving their child alone with 7 animals period. The fact that they happened to be pitbulls has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that this child never had a chance at life because of her stupid parents.

But I still despise how the media will again emphasize the fact that the dogs were pitbulls, when the breed has nothing to do with this. But yet if it were a collie or a retriever, the headline would be "Mauled to Death by 7 Dogs". SMH

Someone needs to be charged for this. This could have easily been prevented had the child been supervised. But R.I.P to the girl. That is a horrible way to die.
