Billboard Radio Monitor : Going For Airplay (June 26 - July 2)
Before logging out of the boards for the weekend, keep these titles in mind looking to make it big next week. One of the biggest lists I've ever received.
Snakes on a Plane (American Rejects)
Invincible (Crossfade)
Waiting on the World to Change (John Mayer)
Gone (Helmet)
Redneck (Lamb of God)
Seize the Day (Avenged Sevenfold)
Lips of an Angel (Hinder)
Highway Song (Walter Trout / John Mayall)
Selfish and Cold (Revelation Theory)
Writing on the Walls (Underoath)
Wild World (Powerman 5000)
Cheated Hearts (Yeah Yeah Yeahs)
School's Out (Gwar)
Knights of Cydonia (Muse)
Land of Confusion (Disturbed)
Heroes (Shinedown)
That was me typing too fast, Rokker 25. It was actually 2 lines on the paper. Allow me to try again:
Snakes on a Plane (Cobra Starship, The Academy Is, Gym Class Heroes, The Sounds, Fall Out Boy, and The All-american Rejects)
I had this posted earlier in the year. It was originally called Bring It, but Starship changed the title to get on the soundtrack to that cheesey looking flick that's out or coming out. I'm not sure if all of the bands listed are on the song, or just members from those groups. Billboard didn't supply any more than I typed.
I think Hinder's ballad will be the biggest hit from that crop. I never really liked the Disturbed remake. Who knows how radio will treat it. The only ones I haven't heard are the songs from Rejects, Mayer, Trout, and Gwar. I'm starting to like the Underoath and Lamb of God tracks the more they get played. Really disappointed in the Yeah Yeah Yeahs selection for release. Pretty good list though!
Hinder is already top 10 on Active and Mainstream. Muse is nearly top 30 on Modern. Disturbed is almost top 40 too. Surprising how well these songs have started without labels' push yet.
Hopefully Underoath, Avenged Sevenfold, and Helmet do alright at rock radio. Muse are already kicking ass so there's nothing more to say about that. I wanna hear the Powerman 5000 song...
Muse should make it to the upper 20. Radio is just beginning to fall in love with that Wolfmotherish vibe. Helmet probably won't score, but I've only heard it 1 time. Avenged Sevenfold have worn out their welcome in my book. Their first 2 singles did nothing for me. The Powerman 5000 song is not a remake, and it's nothing memorable to me.
True, Helmet have never done well on the radio except for "Unsung", but for Avenged Sevenfold, "Seize the Day" should do a lot better than "Beast and the Harlot".
I'm pretty sure Exactly What You Wanted went top 20, but I don't have my info with me. Milquetoast probably charted also. They had a song out last year that got airplay too. Don't remember the title.
For my money, "Seize The Day" will wind up either becoming the biggest track from the list or one of the biggest flops, simply because it's a slow track from a usually hard band. I'm hoping for the former. "Lips Of An Angel" should be the biggest MAINSTREAM track, though.
And, of course, "Knights Of Cydonia" kicks ass. But you knew that already.
I'm surprised too Hinder is top 10 on Active/Mainstream. Right up there ahead of Stone Sour, Pearl Jam, Zombie, Mudvayne, etc. It just doesn't seem to fit in, but neither did Get Stoned and it was a monster. I would be surprised if Avanged Sevenfold can top Hinder's success on any rock charts. But both are still rising.
I never bought the disc. The first track never clicked with me. Just didn't sound good. But Billboard Radio Monitor shows Do it for Me Now (Angels and Airwaves) at #95 on Modern / Alternative as of this morning. Maybe that's it.
