Let's just look at the girl groups that have debuted THIS DECADE:

Now let's look at the British girl groups that have debuted this decade, and separate them into two categories: Flops and GENIUS.

The 411

GENIUS
Girls Aloud
Sugababes

Those two groups alone have (in their home country) a combined six number one singles, and their 7 albums have gone (cumulatively) 14x platinum. They also have an astonishing amount of critical support - more than any other girl group EVER (save the legends, like the Supremes and the Ronettes). Can any of you imagine any US girl group these days selling more than 1.5 million copies of any of their albums? LMAO!

So, why is it that it looks like DC3/4 will be the last great girl group our country cranks out? Could it be that we (as a public) are looking for the wrong things, and they (the maestros behind the girl groups) are completely incompetent? OR is it something deeper? DISCUSS.

PCD is the biggest girl group since Destiny's Child, but they are a FAR 2nd.

I really don't know, they just put out ****** songs. And as far as Danity Kane, that group was doomed from the beginning. Both Making the Bands (O-Town, Da Band) failed miserably and this one will be no different. Besides, their first single blows.

Pussycat Dolls don't even count as a girl group, it's just Nicole and her entourage. It's like saying Gwen + Harajuku Girls = girl group.

Anyways, The Pussycat Dolls are definately the only thing we have in the United States, as they are also selling well in the UK. Other than DC3, I doubt we will EVER have another successful group for a long, long while...Bart...haven't you noticed that the UK just has a market interested in groups?

Sugababes, Girls Aloud, and S Club 8...etc...although successful in the UK, would flop miserably in the United States, which is precisely why they haven't tried to sell here. It's the general market difference I think. That combined with the fact that the UK is definately more pop-based, while the United States is currently floundering in genres of hip-hop, rap, and emo.

Well Jason - no one's interested in S Club, considering their ending like four years ago. But I think this discussion has to go DEEPER.

I know that, with the right push, the Sugababes would blow up internationally. They're not just another ******** girl group that can dance. They have depth in their music. Something these crappy ass girl groups in the states lack.

Bart, The 411 had really successful singles in the U.K. with "On My Knees" and "Dumb", would you really consider them flops? Okay, Okay...they did get dropped but it was because of the SonyBMG merger from what I've heard.
