[CENTER]Anita Sarkeesian's widely controversial series addressing sexism in video games created a massive amount of controversy in the gaming community. She raised money for research on this subject and ended up with over $100,000 for the project.

Here is the first segment. Already over a million views and it has only been a week. Do you agree with what she has to say? Or do you think she is generalizing too much and not focusing on the bigger picture in these plotlines?

I generally agree with Sarkeesian's statements about video games. It's a relatively new narrative form (and an exclusively interactive one at that) so it tends to go by unchallenged and undiscussed beyond its fans (often men), so I'm glad she's putting these videos out to give people something to think about.

She really is crossing territory that no one has crossed before. I think she makes excellent points, although I don't agree with every example she uses. It's good food for thought though.

I remember the dust up over Sarkeesian's fundraising. I didn't know that one of the videos was out, though, and when I have a little more time, I'll definitely watch. I wonder, is she going to discuss sexism in the games, exclusively, or is she going to critique sexism in gaming/geek culture as a whole?

Same here. While I don't agree with 100% of the statements she makes or conclusions she comes to, I think by her putting herself out there on the internet to do these videos and make these kinds of statements (especially when she faces so much harassment and abuse and threats simply for making observations), she opens the doors for more people to openly question the representation of not just women but people of different color, sexuality, gender and faith in the expanding interactive medium of video games. Which can only improve the medium for everyone imo.

Of course gaming is sexist. I mean have you guys seen some of the games? Has anyone seen League of Legends? Half the woman characters have the biggest boobs ever and thats only to attract the gamers who are for the most part males. Gaming has always been sexist and continues to be sexist.

She will in a later video. I haven't played that game but apparently it was legit sexist. I heard that a long time ago before this whole thing even started.

She's making like 11 videos or something absurd. She takes so damn long though, hopefully this project will end before the release of ARTPOP.

I agree 100% Every video response I have seen has been from some ass hole who can't even properly address the points she makes in the video. Her assessment on earlier video game plot lines is pretty much incontestable but I could argue some of the conclusions she made on Zelda and others.

Yeah she totally kicks ass. They really toned down the sex appeal with her too in the 2013 release, I hope she addresses that and acknowledges her as a solid female protagonist.

I mean I face a type of divide in terms of skimpy clothing because I play JRPGs and some of the strongest, most dynamic female characters are wearing next to nothing with massive boobs.

Lmfao. In gaming you either get the girl who is covered up or the girl who isn't covered up and has humongous boobs. Actually the girl who is covered up probably has big boobs as well and during the game somehow she gets disrobed unleashing the nose bleeds of thousands of men DX

So true. Some of my favorite female characters are like this though.

They should sexualize men in video games too. It's the only way.

It's quite funny the overlap between gamers that want video games to be considered an art form and the ones that are quick to reject Anita's analysis of this type of media.

Pretty much. Games have always been horribly sexist so it was great to see someone like Lara Croft toned down in the new Tomb Raider release.
