According to Billboard, the Justified singer wasn't the first choice to perform the song. Super music producers The Neptunes had sent the track to the late Michael Jackson first, but he passed on the song along with a number of other hits on J.T.'s first solo record.

'Disturbia'
Chris Brown co-penned Disturbia, but decided to pass it along to his then girlfriend Rihanna who turned it into a No. 1 hit.
'Telephone'
Lady Gaga reportedly wrote Telephone for Britney Spears' album Circus. In 2010, an alleged rough cut of Spears singing the song was leaked, but that's the closest we've ever gotten to hearing Spears' rendition.
