Okay. I don't know if this is the right Forum to post this but I want to get opinions.

I have a degree in Hospitality Management but every single day I am starting to realize that I really want to work on a biology-related firm. Something that deals with life specifically with animals. I want to study Biology, Wildlife Biology or Zoology. I don't know why but I think that is the career I want to pursue now. I'd prefer getting Master's but since my degree is FAR from Biology I think I wouldn't be admitted nor would I be confident with it since I do not have the base education of a Bachelor's degree.

Is it a right decision to go back and get a second bachelor's degree or is it late for me and would it be better to just pursue a Masteral degree related to my bachelor's i.e. (MS in Hospitality Managent, MBA etc. etc.)?

I'm serious with this question I just want opinions. It's my life yes but if you were me what would you do? Thanks guys.

I don't see the point in you doing a Masters in your current degree if you want to do something biology related. I'm sure you can always apply to do biology

I thought of this too late. But I guess you're right. Sometimes I'm thinking about the degree I will throw away that my parents worked hard on. But they are always supportive of me in what I do. I don't wanna think of taking HM as a mistake, I chose it but honestly I didn't know what to take up when the pressure was on me when I graduated HS and was being handed out college applications.

I'm really thinking about it now a lot and it's not about the money but the work environment I will be dealing with.

The reason I'm thinking of getting the master's degree is for convenience. I mean it's a step up from what the bachelor's degree I graduated two years ago.

But when I take up Biology I will start from scratch but I really think it will be worth the wait and all. Still weighting both but I'm really turning to take that second Bachelor's Degree.

How do you have a degree at age 20?

Anyways, how much is yearly tuition? Most if not all bachelors degrees are useless in the real world. Are there good job prospects for what you want to do?

I graduated High School at 15

Graduated college at 19.

But we didn't have summer vacation. We have 3 weeks of summer vacation and that's it for the rest of the year. That's a 3 and a half year program that counts as a 4 year program since we technically got extra classes since we have a very short summer vacation.

But not that it matters. It's complicated if I tell the whole story.

Tuition? I'm still looking for schools. I want to be in the field. Doing actual observations of animal habitat.

I can be a chef too since we had Culinary in our Hospitality Management program. I like working in the kitchen but I think it's not what I want to do for the rest of my life.

I think you should go after what you're passionate about. You don't wanna spend the rest of your life looking back and wondering what might have been. 20 is still really young and I don't think it's too late for you at all.

When you take Master's degree it counts as a work experience when you apply for a job and is very very advantageous. You might think you like Biology now but when you take a 2nd degree for it it's another round of requirements and exams and you might regret it again in the middle. I regret my course in college too (engineering) but I just pushed through with it and I couldn't imagine taking another path.

I'd take the master's if I were you The career path of most people who work wasn't always the original plan anyway, you might like your major once you're out there.

It's more lucrative to just get your Masters. I have friends who've went and gotten a 2nd Bachelors and it just seems time-consuming (albeit you'd be getting the degree in the field you love). I, on the other hand, have a degree in Finance and really do not want to work in the Business field however I'm not sure what I want to do long term either. Whatever you decide will be a good choice though, Jom.

Life is about doing what makes you happy. Don't even consider anything else.

I would say go for the second degree if you don't think you'll be happy going down your current career path, especially since you're still so young, but there are definitely things to consider...

It's definitely not too late to change paths though. I'm kind of in a similar situation except I don't have my degree yet, so I'm deciding if I want to graduate this year or change/add majors and take an extra year or two to get my bachelors.

Sis, all this "do what you love" is great, but please look at your current financial situation and do a cost/benefit analysis of any new college degrees to avoid going into unnecessary debt. You're best bet would be to research master's programs and find out what the prerequisites are for the degree program you desire. You may very well have to take some more undergrad courses to be a qualified applicant for whatever master's program, but that really depends on the program in question. I doubt you'd have to get a whole new bachelor's degree. For example, one of my friends who went to medical school was an English major, but she took the MCAT in addition to bio, organic chem, and a few other courses to qualify for the med school program.

Do what you want and do what you love. Never settle for less.

First of all guys, thank you very much for your insights and opinions! I appreciate all.

Next, financially.. It'll be a problem since I will be paying for it now not my parents. But if I pass this University, it wouldn't be as big as a burden. This university is one of the best in my country and is really affordable. Crossing my fingers for that. I'm late for enrollment tho so I will be enrolling for the second sem.

- This is actually a problem of mine. I am not that educated with Biology. I took up Biology at the University before (I don't know why it's relevant in my degree in the first place but it's one of the required subjects). The problem here is that our professor just gave lectures and lectures and as an ordinary person, I get bored and sometimes get so sleepy and distracted by how boring he is. I passed the subject but I think I didn't learn enough.

- Another problem here is they are merging all branches of Biology into one degree which is Biology. I wanted to take up Zoology but it's merged with Biology now. I saw this Wildlife Biology course so that's an option

- I am working now. I still don't know if I can take part time biology courses every weekend. I have work M-F from 8-5 so I can't take up Biology without giving up my work. It'll be a problem since I get my money from my work. So my plan if ever I take up Biology is to save for another year then pursue it. With taking up Master's I can just take week end and night classes so it wouldn't be a burden to my work. A burden to my time, absolutely.

I think you should transfer to another course now since you're still studying. It's harder to decide when you're working already. Like me. Since I started my career now I think it's gonna hurt to start again from scratch but I really think this will be worth it. I have a year to decide. I'm definitely going back to school tho.

Go get a second degree. While you're doing that, find a job relating to your current degree.

How long would that take? Management and Biology are very different from each other. I don't like to regret my decision 4 years ago but sometimes I regret making decisions back then. I was very late from enrollment and had to choose my program. I love being in the Hospitality Industry. I love it, it's been a lovely experience but I realize how much I will be enjoying Biology.
