It takes two minutes and forty seconds to get to the point where they compare and contrast, but listen especially to the music and when they put both instrumentals of "Dani California" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance" together. Man, this is seriously ****ing incredible.

I highly recommend listening to this, though, if only because they actually mesh the instrumentals from both songs. I know that there can be an argument made here for the Peppers, but seriously, that instrumental mesh is DAMNING to that argument and to the Peppers.

I won't say they ripped Petty off, but it might be too much of a coincidence.

Yeah, I couldn't believe how similar Dani California was to the Last Dance. It is pretty amazing. Either way, I don't really care, cuz I am definitely not a fan of DC, although I love the album overall. But yeah, the two songs seem a little to similar, whether it's a 'tribute' or not (though I'd think RHCP would at least somewhat hinted at that if that's what they intended).

Can't wait til the Chili's upcoming singles are released.

If you listen to last dance , you will find it's a totally different song ,infact, it sucks donkey balls and yeah , alot of songs sound like these two songs , It's not that complicated musically to say tom petty's song is unique and RHCP's ripped that masterpiece off.
I still don't know why this song was the first single from SA?!
