Nicole Scherzinger and Hurts are among the acts rejected for this week's BBC Radio 1 playlist.
Both were personally tweeted by the station, who revealed that they won't be playing their latest tracks on the station due to "more important" new releases.
They said: "@theohurts [Hurts] won't be added today as there is more important releases at the station at the moment.
"@NicoleScherzy is another not to be added. Again, due to the amount of other releases this week."
Other singles that didn't make this week's playlist were Of Monsters and Men's 'King & Lionheart', The Vaccines' 'Bad Mood' and Arlissa's 'Sticks & Stones'.
Meanwhile, songs that were added include Maroon 5's 'Daylight' and One Direction's Comic Relief Single 'One Way or Another', which was confirmed to be playlisted next week.
In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Radio 1's head of music George Ergatoudis denied that the station has "total control" over the charts.
"A lot of people believe we have total control over what gets in the charts and what is popular, but this simply isn't the case," he said.
"Of course we do have influence, but the public know what they like and if we don't acknowledge that they'll soon turn us off and go elsewhere."
