Survivor: Exile Island" resumed its season with a 9.8/16 for CBS at 8 p.m. "Will & Grace," 6.5/11, and a "My Name Is Earl," 5.4/9, put CBS in second. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition -- After the Storm" was third for ABC. A "That '70s Show" rerun, 3.2/5, and "The Loop," 2.6/4, put FOX in fourth, just ahead of "Smallville," 2.8/5, on The WB. UPN went with reruns of "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Love, Inc."

- Will & Grace had higher ratings then even last week because Britney was on the episode. Also, the show came in at #2 of the night when it premiered. Congrats Britney! You still got it.

I don't understand those fractions, what does that mean? So Will and Grace came in 2nd, yea! Congratualations Britney. I don't understand how people come up with these statistics. They can't physically see what people watch, or can they?

They take a sample, it's statistics. There are a set number of households who have these little books (I've done it before) and they have to fill out everything they watch every day and submit it to Nielsen for the TV ratings. It's the same people who do Soundscan which determines the ratings for radio stations and therefore the audience reach for airplay.

The first number is the percentage of TVs in America tuned to that show (on or off). The 2nd number is the percentage of TVs that are actually turned on at the time.

They get the numbers through surveys and they can select people to actually hook their tvs up to a device that monitors watching. It's BS though.

Wow, that's a lot higher for Will & Grace than I thought...I guess Britney still has the touch.
