Best song by genre? I guess I'll try.
Hard Rock/Metal
Korn, "Lies" (One of the best tracks on their 1994 debut. Without Korn, I highly doubt any bands out there today would even exist. I had to choose between "Lies," "Need To," and "Ball Tongue," but the entire album is classic. I have a lot of favorites from each of their 7 albums but this comes first, and happens to be one of the closest albums they've come to sounding like a metal band.)
Metallica, "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" (If the 8 tracks on Master of Puppets were conjoined into a 55-minute opus, it'd be here...)
Tool, "Forty Six & 2" (Um, Ænima is just an amazing album...Tool's best, so far. I chose this because it's one of the most well-known, and it was a single. "H." or "Pushit" would be here too.)
Deftones, "Elite" (White Pony! It's the one album that is special to me for a personal reason, and at the same time, it happens to kick a lot of ass in terms of songwriting and evolution. Frank Delgado upgraded from being a typical turntablist in a rock band to being a keyboardist/sampler...only one track has scratching on it, "Teenager," and it was originally a Team Sleep song. "Elite" is also the reason Deftones have a Grammy under their belts.)
Slayer, "Seasons in the Abyss"
Alternative/Punk
nine inch nails, "Ruiner"
311, "Sometimes Jacks Rule the Realm"
Beck, "E-Pro"
The Offspring, "Come out Swinging"
Pennywise, "Alien"
I'll finish this later with electronic/industrial, pop, rap/hip-hop, and Ryan's favorite, gospel.
