Can the average person name a David Bowie song? Sure they've probably heard "Fame," but do they know it's him? Any other songs they could name?

Is his musical output in fact vastly unknown/forgotten, and does he benefit from the idea that his music has made impact when he's really more known for being an androgynous glam rocker who did lines at Studio 54 and wore outlandish "boundary-pushing" outfits?

people should know "Changes" though, but his songs arent played that much on the radio, hes a bit of a cult thing. He is a legend though, its not his fault that kids nowadays dont know him, I mean, you'd be hard pressed to find an average kid who can name an Iggy Pop and the Stooges song, but they are considered legends too

His music isn't known as publicly known as others in his category. He is known though, and his impact on music is undeniable.

I would say most people born prior to 1995 could tell you who david Bowie is. And I think most people would know Under Pressure if they hear it or The Man Who Sold The World if they were into Nirvana.

Anyone who doesn't know Changes or Under Pressure is a mess.
But I think his imagery and performance style is a lot more recognized than his music. He never really had a huge amount of commercial success as far as I know, but he's still hugely influential.
