Kylie calls halt to music career afte ending relationship with Terry Blamey, who launched her into showbusiness
KYLIE Minogue has called a halt to her music career just days after the end of celebrations of her 25th year as a singer, the Sunday Mirror can exclusively reveal..
The star has shocked her friends by splitting from her long-term manager Terry Blamey, who helped launch her into showbusiness when she was 19. It is claimed the Aussie was upset over tensions between Terry and her dad.
Kylie, now 44, has decided to concentrate on acting for the foreseeable future and take a break from music.
A source close to the star said yesterday: “Kylie’s decision to stop recording for the time being and part company with Terry has come as a massive shock.
“Ever since she broke into the charts in the 80s Terry has been the man behind the scenes. But now Kylie is saying she wants to pull back from the pressures that come with a music career.
“She says she’s determined to devote more time both to herself and to her career as an actress.”
The past year has seen “K25” events all over the world to celebrate Kylie’s 25-year pop career, which began with The Loco-Motion. She has sold more than 65 million records and won an OBE for services to music.
Last month she thrilled a sell-out crowd at London’s O2 Arena, reuniting on stage with Jason Donovan to sing their hit Especially For You. But sources close to the star say manager Terry and her father Ron, had differing opinions on where her career should head.
Terry last week told pals the split was entirely amicable and weeks earlier Kylie appeared at the music industry Artist & Manager Awards where Terry was given the main gong of the night.

The singer thanked him for “helping a 19-year-old girl take on the world”.
Kylie’s former record label Parlophone has been sold and she is now part of the giant Universal Records outlet. Yesterday an industry insider claimed the changes may also have influenced her decision.
The source said: “Kylie used to be a big fish at her former label. She’s now been put into a huge roster of acts at Universal and probably can’t expect the special treatment she was used to.
“She may be thinking she’s achieved most of what she wants as a pop star.”
As an actress Kylie first found fame in Aussie soap Neighbours in 1986, where she played Charlene Robinson. Her character was married to Scott Robinson – played by Jason Donovan.
She recently had a role in the film Holy Motors, which she called a “big challenge”.

Let's calm down now with The Herald Sun and a quote from Terry Blamey:
Kylie Minogue has split with longtime manager Terry Blamey.
However British reports that the parting meant Minogue was retiring from music have been dismissed.
Blamey, who has managed Minogue's career since the release of Locomotion in 1987, officially ended his partnership with the star on New Year's Eve.
Sources say Minogue made the decision in September, with the pair working together amicably until the end of the celebrations of her 25th anniversary in music.
"Kylie has decided to pull back slightly from the pressures of her career and devote more time to herself and her acting career,"
Blamey said. "This is not to say she will be retiring from music, just taking a bit of a break."
Blamey will "pursue other exciting business opportunities and spend more time with my family.
As we reach this fork in the road after a wonderful 25 years working together, we do so amicably, wishing each other nothing but the very best for each other's continued success."
Minogue renewed her love of acting with a critically-acclaimed role in last year's indie flick Holy Motors.
"I had no idea Holy Motors would do this for me," Minogue told News Limited in October. "It's made me a little bit hungry for more ..."
Minogue also had a small role in another cult film, Jack and Diane, released in the US last November and has been linked to British musical romcom Walking on Sunshine, which goes into production this year.
The star has dated model boyfriend Andres Velencoso since 2008, who joined her as she celebrated New Year's Eve in Sydney.
While the news marks an end of an era - and one of the longest-running and most successful partnerships in pop music - a spokeswoman for Minogue said she is "definitely not retiring from music."
Blamey received an an award for his management skills in London in November - Minogue gave a speech with read in part "You can only imagine how much we've been through together: The highs, lows and plateaus, the good the bad and the ugly. But throughout it all Terry's commitment, support and guidance has remained constant."
Minogue's spokeswoman also denied British media reports the split was provoked by a falling out between Blamey and Minogue's father Ron over the direction of the star's career.
