Quentin Tarantino has angrily dismissed questions from journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy regarding screen violence, telling him: "I'm shutting your butt down."
The director appeared on the UK's Channel 4 News to promote the release of Django Unchained, which will hit cinemas nationwide on January 18.
Guru-Murthy raised the ire of Tarantino by attempting to discuss whether there was a link between real violence and screen violence, to which the Pulp Fiction director responded: "Don't ask me questions like that. I'm not biting. I refuse your question."
When the journalist attempted to push on with his line of questioning, he interjected: "I'm not your slave and you're not my master. You can't make me dance to your tune. I'm not your monkey."
The director said in an NPR interview last week that he believed linking movie violence to recent real-life tragedies such as the Sandy Hook shooting was "disrespectful".
As Guru-Murthy attempted to justify his question, Tarantino said: "I'm here to sell my movie . This is a commercial for the movie, make no mistake. I don't want to talk about the implications of violence.
"The reason I don't want to talk about is I've said everything I want to say about it. If anyone cares what I have to say about it, they can Google me, and they can look for 20 years on what I have to say about it. I haven't changed my opinion one iota."
When Guru-Murthy argued that it was his "job" to try to flesh Tarantino's opinions out, the director replied: "I'm shutting your butt down.
"I have explained it. I'm just not giving it to you... I refuse to repeat myself because you want me to for your show and your ratings." (source)
He sounds extremely bothered though. Like all you have to say is "no I don't wanna talk about that, if you're interested, Google me." I like Tarantino's movies but he seems like such an asshole in all his interviews. It's a complete turn off.
The interviewer is a well-respected interviewer in the UK and Quentin is fantastic at what he does. It was interesting to see the way they both interact with each other.
I'm excited to see the film...either on the screen or the internet in DVD quality as J A Y has said
