Nokia has told its investors that its Devices and Services business "delivered better than expected results" in Q4 2012, lead by the estimated 4.4 million Lumia phones it sold in the quarter. Year-over-year, that compares favorably with the 1 million Windows Phone devices that the company said it sold in Q4 2011, though the phone didn't launch until part-way through the quarter. The 4.4 million sold is also 1.5 million better than it did last quarter, and it's the most Lumia phones the company has sold in any quarter since the smartphone line first launched in fall 2011. This quarter marks the first year of Lumia sales, and it has sold a total of 14.3 million to date. Beyond Lumia, the company sold 9.3 million Asha phones in the quarter, and the company's reliance on Symbian smartphones continues to fade away as it moved only 2.2 million during the quarter. The Finnish company's preliminary earnings report also reveals that its Devices & Services division has achieved "underlying profitability," beating the gloomy outlook Nokia set for itself in Q4. Today's release is a preliminary report, and we'll be keeping an eye out for the full statement in a few weeks.

The quarter ends the 31st. We can expect record breaking quarter numbers from Apple and Samsung later this month.

My mom has an Asha Theyre not dumbphones, just really basic smartphones (memory card, wifi, email etc)

Good. And that's without India sales. With the 620 coming, I expect it to rise a little bit more. (I mean the Windows Phone market share)

Windows Phone will do well. Some frightening things that Microsoft is doing with Windows 8, especially it's move to metro and how it's pushing data into your desktop like a Facebook Timeline/Twitter Feed will put them in the position to do a lot more. Especially when the world completes it's migration, which is happening fast.

Yeah They sold well considering they can only make 600,000 per month and that they're literally only carrier-exclusive. - their availability is almost scarce, that could explain their sales. But they only sold 1M Lumias same time last year.
