I was reading about how residential segregation has been creeping all over the world, with cities having commonly races and/or different wages people living in uniform sectors. This is not "racism" in the traditional sense, but it seems that different groups will always stick to each other and distrust the others.

Are racial and other type of group divisions unavoidable?

but it is sad there is always a bias against who is different than you... I wonder if it's because of how human mind works or just because of our education...

Yes. It is unavoidable due to numerous inescapable biological and sociological factors.

When your culture is founded on segregation and so many people still casually preach it, its hard to break out of that.

I wouldn't say it's unavoidable, but it makes sense. And it isn't necessarily bad. Having a Little Italy or Chinatown (for example) section in a city shouldn't be looked down upon.

Its unavoidable, it happens naturally. People will always flock to people who are similar to them.

Go outside, and I'll guarantee you'll see whites hanging with whites, blacks with blacks, Hispanics with Hispanics, and so on. Its just life.

Especially when you consider that many of the people who live their are immigrants, and maybe long for a place where they can be surrounded by their culture.

I'm black and I live in a Mexican neighbourhood mostly around my area is mixed even in the hood parts of my town have all races living there. After our 1996 race war here things have gotten better

Yes that happens, but in the grand scheme of things you'll see people of the same ethnicity, color, religion whatever stick together.

Its just the way humans are psychologically. Nothing is wrong with that, and its isn't racist. It all has to do with outgroup vs. ingroup psychology.

And the welfare system,gangs,Indirect racial bias when hiring people,and the war on drugs aren't helping either.

It happened in my high school, a very diverse one in NYC. The whites hanged with the whites, blacks with blacks, and so forth. Yes every now and then people mixed, but it was always the same. And within those groups there was smaller groups.

I'm now in college, and the its also very diverse. My school has no majority race, and again the same races hang with other. Occasionally there is a mix, but people stick with there kind. If you were to go to a similar setting, you'll see what I'm saying.

That's just life, we have cultures, we have in-groups and that's how the system works. But we do have a choice nowadays so (for example) the reason why you don't have white/black/etc. friends is on YOU for not being open minded and your ignorance.

We tend to link up with the people we relate to, people from our social class and that happen to be our race. Half the time it is without intention, it just happens naturally. It's about who you're comfortable with until you're ready to find relationships outside your own race (and that friendship will build naturally).

Exactly. It's not really segregation since they're not forbidding outsiders to join, but they need to have something that reminds them of their roots.
