Former X Factor winner Shayne Ward has offered his advice to 2012 champion James Arthur, claiming that the singer should be wary of the "hard industry".

Ward said that Arthur has a "great voice", but claimed that the 24-year-old from Teesside must "listen and learn" if he wants to succeed.

"My advice to him... Just learn as much as you can from the get go," said Ward.

"It's easy to have the wrong type of people around you."

Ward was dropped by Syco after his third album Obsession didn't make the Top 10 and he struggled to reach previous sales highs.

Arthur had a Twitter spat with another X Factor winner, Matt Cardle, at the end of 2012. The pair fell out over comments Arthur made about previous male winners of the show.

When Cardle warned the 24-year-old about being too cocky, Arthur went on to call Cardle's "desperation for press" embarrassing.

Ward is one of the contestants on this year's Dancing on Ice, which launches on Sunday (January 6).

He speaks no lie, there's no male xFactor winner who's done successfully. Everyone thought Matt Cardle would but he's failed.

Olly is the main exception to the rule, but he didn't win he was runner-up. Good luck to James, let's see if he can beat the flop trend.

Syco dropped the ball on him. He had potential to be huge, but alas...once again Syco ruined a career.

Matt Cardle's second album The Fire still charted in the top 10 despite him leaving Syco/Simon Cowell after his first album.

Not major success but he definately hasn't faded and Joe McElderry - believe it or not - has now released THREE top ten albums in the UK. That makes Joe THE FIRST X Factor act to have THREE TOP TEN ALBUMS

Everyone thought he was a flop but he's having sustained success. In fact his second album (his first for Decca Records) Classic has sold well over double what his Syco debut did.

A little premature and cocky of James to say, but I think he'll make it longer than Ward and definitely Cardle, who was IMO the worst male winner.

I wouldn't say horrible, but it's definitely a last resort entrance. The people behind these talent shows are only looking to make a quick buck and then they'll drop you on your ass the first sign of a misstep. They're not out to produce long-lasting superstars. If it happens, it's a needle in a haystack type of situation. Very rare.

Honey with the current UK sales climate, anyone can go top ten. I can be delusional and celebrate Marina's #1 album, but in the real world it only sold 21,000 to get there.

Joe's total sales are HORRID, as are Matt's. They're flops.

Shayne could've been so epic, Breathless is flawless. The third album was a tad bit terrible, though so I'm not surprised it bombed.

Can someone tell me how to succeed with a cover of a song and have a top 10 album (bar Avril Lavigne)
