Power 96.9 Debuts In Boston
Could This Format Be A Stunt?
Quote:
GREATER MEDIA Talk WTKK (NEWS TALK 96.9)/BOSTON, morning hosts MARGERY EAGAN and JIM BRAUDE signed off at 10a, with JOURNEY's "Don't Stop Believing" running in the background, thanking many involved with their show and the station's departing format.
The song ended suddenly, reminiscent of the final SOPRANOS episode, and POWER 96.9 debuted with RIHANNA's "Diamonds" as the first song. RICK ROSS's "Diced Pineapples" followed by MIGUEL's "Do You," FRANK OCEAN "Thinkin About You" and KANYE WEST, JAY-Z & RICK ROSS & NICKI MINAJ & BON IVER "Monster."
The songs currently playing are looping in the same order every three to four hours. If this is a stunt, could the eventual format be some form of Rock?
The station is positioned as "BOSTON's Hip Hop and R&B station." The website is http://www.power969.com/.
But, could this all be a stunt, with another format flip around the corner? The songs currently playing are looping in the same order every three to four hours. If this is a stunt, could the eventual format be some form of Rock?
Earlier, MARGERY EAGAN and JIM BRAUDE got a chance to do a final show to say goodbye to listeners. "AMERICA did not fall off the fiscal cliff," joked BRAUDE, "but we are falling off the radio cliff." The show's regular contributors and guests were scheduled to appear on the final episode, including MASSACHUSETTS Governor DEVAL PATRICK.
“We would like to thank JIM BRAUDE, MARGERY EAGAN, MICHAEL GRAHAM and the entire NEWS TALK 96.9 WTKK-FM staff for their many contributions to the station and Talk Radio format over the years in BOSTON,” said Market Manager ROB WILLIAMS. “They are true professionals and we are very grateful to them.”

Station Stunting As EDM-Formatted Nova 96.9
Pebbles Takes Mornings At 96.9FM/Boston
Quote:
GREATER MEDIA's stunting format-of-the-day station, former Talker WTKK/BOSTON, currently in EDM mode as NOVA 96.9, has inked veteran market personality PEBBLES to do mornings at 96.9FM -- and this announcement should set tongues wagging about what the eventual format could be.
You'll recall this stunting began YESTERDAY, (NET NEWS 1/2), as "BOSTON's Hip Hop and R&B station, POWER 96.9."
PEBBLES left crosstown CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/Rhythmic WJMN (JAM'N 94.5) where she'd co-hosted mornings for years with RAMIRO TORRES, last month (NET NEWS 12/24) and joined 96.9FM this week (1/2) in order to prep for her new show.
In addition to co-hosting mornings, PEBBLES, a 17-year fixture at WJMN, also served was a news anchor, traffic reporter and entertainment reporter. She's been very active in the local community with the GIRL SCOUTS, FIRST BOOK BOSTON, and the BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF BOSTON. And PEBBLES started the program "PEBBLES READING ROCKSTARS" to encourage kids to read more and develop a love of books.
PEBBLES said, "I am beyond thrilled to become a member of the GREATER MEDIA family, and am extremely grateful to (GREATER MEDIA Market Manager) ROB WILLIAMS for giving me the opportunity to continue my journey in radio doing what I love. I am deeply thankful for the support of the listeners who have followed my career over the years and I hope that they will continue to support me in my new venture."
WILLIAMS added, "PEBBLES has been a consistent top performer in BOSTON radio for years. I had the pleasure to work with her at JAM’N and I was pleasantly surprised that she was available to join our team as we launch our new station on 96.9 FM. Her on-air talents, her commitment to working in the BOSTON community, and her incredible personality make a rare combination."
And, ALL ACCESS hears that there are more announcements coming.

It's very possible that they will switch formats again if the EDM Format doesn't get a good audience.. Will update when possible.. But it is very possible that the EDM format is staying.. I hope so, there aren't many EDM stations out there..
