I had my wisdom teeth removed around a year ago before they even started growing in. Apparently it's the best way to go, the earlier you get them removed the less the nerves will have grown.
Far as the surgery went I went under laughing gas as well as local anesthesia. Some people who are really afraid of dental surgery will be put under so they aren't conscience for it, but my parents didn't want me to do that because there's always a chance you could slip into a coma

I could have gotten them all removed at once but I was scared so we did two visits, I got one side of my mouth done one time and then like a month later went back and did the other side. This was during summer so I could take all the recovery time I needed but if you have school or work obviously you can't really do this.
The only painful part about the surgery was getting the needles for the anesthesia. I can't remember how many needles they give you but it's multiple all around your gums but it's not that bad. If you've had cavities filled under anesthesia then you know what the needle feels like. Once you get past the needles you honestly can't feel any pain. Only the pressure of the dentist taking out your wisdom teeth.
The surgery wasn't really that bad, with the laughing gas it was almost enjoyable and relaxing in a way, it's just the recovery that is horrible. You have to rinse with salt water regularly. Your mouth is just sore and you can't really eat or drink anything for a while. But they should prescribe you pain killers afterwards I just didn't take them cause they made me feel like crap and I'd be sleeping 15 hours a day
Anyway, it's all worth getting it done now because as you age your wisdom teeth cause a lot of problems. Go for it.
