In Japan, at least 2-3 singles are released BEFORE the album. Don't you guys think that doing that here in America would raise the exposure of artists and their styles and then finally releasing the album would raise sales?
I am thinking about just one single before the CD, anything else would seem like overkill. Also, most who have already bought the singles, would not opt to buy the CD anymore...at least I wouldn't, unless I really liked the artist.
Anthony Kerty's example would be like Ayumi Hamasaki who had "3" singles last year, and about 6 bonus songs with videos, which is almost the same thing.
I agree to an extent... Sometimes when I really like the artist, I will buy the album no matter what. Even if the first single sucks. But when a new artist emerges, say Ciara for instance, and she releases like 3 singles before her album is even leaked, then I probably would've bought her album.
DO you know how much money taht would cost the record label to do on a record that COULD FLOP? You never know nowadays, and to take a chance like that.. That's crazy.
Japan and USA economy are completly different. It would never work that way here, people would loose out incredibly. If it would be better in terms of sales, don't you think someone would've done it?
this tends to happen a few times over here in the UK. for instance, an example of it has just happened. Arctic Monkeys released their debut single in October, theire 2nd single nearly 2 weeks ago and both got to number 1. Thier album was released this week and is expected to get 400,000 sales, which is kind of unheard of with a debut act, but hey, its the Monkeys and they cant do anything wrong with their brilliant music.
Girls Aloud did it with their last album, they released 3 songs i believe, before their album was released in September.
There has been other examples of artists releasing singles before launching their albums. But in the UK, even if the album is released alongside the first single, the sales still continue with the following single releases. May just be that in America that the singles tend to go down in sales once the album is released.
NAH! That's like ONE artist, her name is Koda Kumi and she released 12 singles, in 12 weeks, which she is currently doing lol

And I'm not sure, because I'm not into the J Pop fever, but I have some friends that are, and I guess there are other artists doing that!
And btw, they do that in Japan because they usually release like 9 singles from an album.

I wouldn't mind 9 singles from Green Day's American Idiot, Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway, and Nelly's Sweat and Suit Alblums.
