People on internet and critics are saying it's a masterpiece. Tons of people said they had high expectations because of LotR and they said this movie exceeded all those expectations! Lord of the Rings is absolutely the best movie I've ever experienced, and I cannot wait to watch this one. Going tomorrow
Going to watch this on Sunday. I expect it to be the same as LotR. Visually appealing but dull as dishwater and a corny ass mess. I'm still gonna enjoy it a lot though, I think.
Just came back from a cinema nearby watching this. I got understandably the same feeling watching this as compared to The Lord of The Rings trilogy. Same **** different movies. If I could, I'd ask for a refund tbh.
I saw it today. The beginning was nothing near extraordinary and I nearly fell asleep at some point but when Gollum appeared I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. I love the scenes with him. Anyway the second half was definitely better than the first one and despite the length it still managed to get my attention. I cannot wait for the next film.
I saw it yesterday. I'd give it around 7/10 at best. As we've all read, the pacing is pretty poor and it really feels like it has been stretched out. There are so many pointless scenes that could easily have been removed, especially in the first hour. That wasn't actually my biggest problem though. The entire thing just seemed to be constantly aping the first three movies. I haven't read the book in years, but a lot of it was so, so similar to the events in the other movies. Same predicaments, same battles, same escapes etc. If the other movies hadn't already been made, I'm sure I'd be blown away by a lot of this one, but I just felt like I'd seen it all before. It's as if they were consciously trying to tick every single box based on the previous films. I didn't find any of the incidents particularly exciting either. The characters are nowhere near as engaging as the characters in the LOTR trilogy. Contrary to the reviews, I actually thought Martin Freeman was pretty poor in the role. He's just being "Tim from The Office" in it, as he is in pretty much everything, so I found it hard to see him as Bilbo Baggins. Thankfully the other actors are wonderful.
For all its faults, it's still enjoyable and has some gorgeous visuals and music. Not a patch on the original trilogy though.
It has a 66% Rotten Tomato rating with 175 reviews....
For some reason I feel like the critics are rating it as average because they feel that they rated LOTR a bit too well.... Idk, stuff like that does happen.
Of course I haven't seen the film yet. It comes out in 2 weeks in my country (flop) and I'm a huge fan of the Tolkien books, so probably my judgement is already clouded, too.
