Geri and Victoria friends again and having lunch/dinner together
1997 OLDER SPICE 2005
Friendship never ends for Ginger and Posh.. but years leave mark
By Rick Fulton
THEY are famous for what they were - not what they are - but when two Spice Girls get together, it's still a fascinating prospect. Not for any musical reasons, but just to compare Victoria Beckham and Geri Halliwell - then and now.Back in 1997, at the height of their popularity, they sang "Friendship never ends" on their famous hit, Wannabe. And it seems that, despite some rocky times, it's holding true. Now both millionaires, their paths have been very different since.Geri - then Ginger Spice - quit the group in 1998 leaving Victoria - then Posh Spice - and the other girls shell-shocked.While Geri had four solo No1 singles, Victoria has had little success, although they are now both out of record contracts. And while Victoria married David Beckham, one of the world's most famous footballers, Geri has gone from relationship to relationship - including Sacha Gervasi, the father of her unborn baby.Soon the Spice duo will have something more in common than just being in a famous group in the Nineties.Victoria, a mum-of three, is excited that Geri is pregnant and has let her stay at her "Beckingham Palace" home in Sawbridgeworth, Hampshire. To celebrate, the duo went to the Royal Opera House for a night out. And, boy, the years have treated them differently. While younger at 31, Posh, with flaring nostrils, skinny frame and thinning hair, is starting to look slightly haggard.Allegations of David cheating, her son Romeo's ill-health and keeping her clothes horse frame have meant Victoria's once-sultry good looks have all but vanished.Meanwhile Geri - always loud with her voice and clothes - looks much better at 33 than she did back in 1997.Then, her dyed ginger locks and clown make-up made her look like a cartoon. But on her trip with Victoria, she looked sophisticated with a classy brown-dyed hair job, tasteful clothes and make-up.And, probably because of her condition, positively blooming. It's not so much a statement of Girl Power as Woman Power
