Spears sues over sex tape claims
 Ms Spears is suing over an article in Us Weekly's October edition
Pop star Britney Spears has sued a US magazine for $10m (£5.6m), accusing it of fabricating a story that she and her husband made a sexually explicit video.
An Us Weekly story that Ms Spears and husband Kevin Federline had made a sex video and were afraid it would become public was "bogus", the action stated.
The couple's Los Angeles Superior Court action seeks damages for libel.
But a spokeswoman for the magazine said: "Us Weekly has a credible source, and we stand by our reporting."
According to the legal action, an October edition of Us Weekly magazine reported that the couple had told their lawyers that "a member of their entourage had threatened to release raunchy footage of the two".
 Ms Spears and Mr Federline married in September 2004
Ms Spears was reported in the magazine as saying that she feared "an X-rated tape starring the two may go public".
Us Weekly also reported that the couple gave a copy of the tape to lawyers on 30 September 2005 and were "acting goofy" while watching it with them.
Ms Spears' complaint asserts that the entire story is false.
"There was no laughter, disgust or goofy behaviour while watching the video in the company of lawyers because they did not watch any video, and because there is no such video," the action stated.
Malicious
The article appeared about a month after Ms Spears, 24, gave birth to her first child, Preston.
According to the legal action, Ms Spears went to court after Us Weekly refused her request for a retraction, and "is instead maliciously standing by the bogus story".
The singer and Us Weekly clashed earlier this year, after it published photographs of Ms Spears on honeymoon with Federline in Fiji in 2004.
The 24-year-old pop star issued a statement in February criticising the magazine. "Coming from a celebrity who sold pictures of both her wedding and her stepdaughter, it's unlikely the issue here is privacy," responded Us Weekly. "Britney should start her own magazine if she'd like to dictate her own coverage."

WAY to many threads of Britney, and all you people say Kelly is overrated. Everyday their is something new about her. Stop trying to make Britney out like a bad person. She's just having trouble with her husband. We need less Britney and more of artists that don't get credit. I'm a really big fan of Britney, but am getting sick of this Britney marriage mess.

I didn't mean it that way, but whatever. It's weird how just one comment makes someone blow up. I was just saying that their are so many posts about Britney. That's all. Has in making her a bad person, well it seems that people are hating more Britney everyday because of this. I love Britney and I bet you do too. Other People get irrated and hate Britney even more because she is always in the news. Has in Kelly being overrated, that wasn't my opinion I was speaking for others. I read in the Trl archive that people think she is overrated, has in my opinion, she is somewhat overated. Like on Trl and on the radio yeah she is overplayed. She is only overated by her music and that's it. They play her music so much. I'm sorry if my opinion makes you mad, but I didn't mean anything about this. I have over 10 Britney cds, and I have like three of her dvds. I am a fan of Britney. I have 2 calendars, I have stickers and many many posters of Britney on my wall. Don't get mad and start calling people names until you know for a fact it's true. I'm not going to call you anything because I don't know you. If I did maybe I would, but most likely I wouldn't. I wish Britney well and I am looking for her new album. It's crazy how one thing goes into another and it all blows up. Sorry for telling my opinion.
