Nokia job listing hints at upcoming Nokia Android phones
Quote:
A first Nokia Android phone could be on the cards after a job application released by the Finnish phone manufacturer appeared to seek the services of an expert in Google’s mobile OS.
With the Android OS being built around a Linux based structure, Nokia’s recently posted, and hastily deactivated job posting called for a “Principal Software Engineer” for work in “Embedded Linux Middleware.”
Although Nokia has focused its smartphone efforts on the Windows Phone platform in recent years, from the Windows Phone 7 brimmed Nokia Lumia 800 to the recently released and Windows Phone 8 launching Nokia Lumia 920, the former handset giant has been rumoured to be planning its first Android phone in a bid to reverse its fortunes and regain traction in the smartphone market.
The job listing, which appeared on the business orientated social site LinkedIn, revealed that the desired Linux expert would be based in a “start-up environment,” focusing their efforts on “mobile phone technology” and “exciting new products.”
With the Windows Phone OS having made only marginal gains into the global smartphone market dominated by Apple’s iOS platform and the Google Android OS, Nokia has previously been tipped to be joining the Android revolution with the company reportedly targeting the lofty heights of the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X.
Given that Nokia has failed to confirm its rumoured Android based intentions, further speculation has suggested that the company’s new Linux personnel could be tasked with transporting the Nokia Drive mapping app to the much loved Android platform.

They should've done this a long time ago. I think clinging to one OS hurted them than it helped them. WP is still not matured yet like Android and iOS.
I think they should do both platforms. And try a bigger ad budget. Samsung spends a lot on ads.

They have 4B in revenues left. They can't spend too much money on different things.

And sticking to one platform isn't going to help. I just feel that Nokia is in a tough area right now. They need to find a solution because ultimately they'll sink.
Yeah, it's the same as Samsung not making money off their WP8 phones as well. But I'm really eager to see what they can come up with.
But it's not like Nokia is really even making huge profits off of WP either. WP is a side job for Samsung. Samsung and Apple are the only companies in the mobile phone industry making huge profit off of it hence why they're arguing in court right now. HTC makes small profits from Android sometimes but nothing to write home about. The Galaxy and Droid line are already established as hell. Especially the Galaxy line.

We still don't know until the figures come out. Especially that Nokia is huge in India, and it will be released there this month or next month. I'm still hoping Nokia pulls through

Samsung's ads aren't really that great for them to be spending that much money. Like that ad where the mom sends the dad a dirty video
