Jk at the passive-agressive title, BUT Okay, one question I have for the lot of you...
Why is foreign music, especially any in the asian market, considered such a niche on this website and isn't widely recognized at least HERE, a music forum.
Is it the assumption that all artists from Korea and Japan are idol groups with 100000x songwriters and a team of people who are there to craft them into something marketable.
Or is it that maybe you just can't be bothered listening to music in a different language?
I mean, I know I'm generalizing for the most part. Some of you do bop to foreign artists even though you dont post in the respective threads, I get that. But there's only so many times you can see "I DONT KNOW HA" posted everywhere whenever a foreign artist is pinned against one from the US/UK.
But here, let me ask you dis.
What do you think of this song? It's a little R'n'B ballad with a powerhouse voice behind it. From Korea, see, and there's only one person singing (besides the feature) so seeing 9 blow-up dolls rolling in glitter shouldn't confuse you.
Post y'alls opinions.
Edit: Some other songs of interest.
Chara is excellent. She's like a mix of Joanna Newsom and some indie-pop. SEE! No school uniforms OR tentacles.
This is Ailee. Beautiful voice. Some ballad-pop goodness.

It's that simple. The majority of people aren't here for music in languages they don't understand. It's so sad because different languages add a whole new dimension to the spectrum of music. Exploring a 3D world of music is so much better than a 2D one.
I hate music where I can't understand the lyrics.
Lyrics are the most important thing to a song so if I don't get what you're singing your music is not really interesting to me.
But I don't hate foreign music I just can't get into it.

But to me, music is the universal language. I mean, whether you understand what they're singing about or not, it shouldn't block you from deciding whether a song is good or not.

Well then, two questions for you.
1.) Do you not bop to songs with completely vapid lyrics with no integrity or point?
2.) If Lyrics are the most important thing to you, do you mainly listen to Acapella?

This. Although it's really hard to google songs not in your native/english language. I know a few french songs since we had french before and my french teacher did gave us some songs to listen to. I'm digging Carla Bruni. She's great.

1)Ofcourse I do and I also bop to some spanish songs by Shakira for example but I never enjoy them as much because I can't really sing along or understand it right now.
As a whole I prefer music who is more lyrics driven than beat driven.
2)No I didn't say the rest of the song is unimportant but lyircs are just the most important thing to me.Of course it has to have a sound and vocals that appeal to me but lyrics are what it's all about in the end imo.
I don't disregard foreign artists. I just like to sing along to songs and it's difficult when you don't speak the language and can't even read the lyrics especially if the language uses a different alphabet.
I'm a big fan of BoA though.

I just dont see how a language barrier could write-off a song for you.
I mean, if you listened to the song posted you'd see that there's refrains and hooks in english, so it's easy to get what the song is about. This is very common in foreign music. Not that I'm saying you should LIKE this song, but I mean it's easy to understand the premise without knowing the full lyrical content.

BoA slays.
Idk, I find myself singing some of my favorite songs in the car that aren't in english. I mean, it probably sounds stupid and mildly offensive/racist but I dont care I be boppin.
But I guess people are different. I mean, I listen to songs by orchestras which have 0 lyrical content and I find the music to be beautiful.

!!! This.
That's also the reason why I hate screamo music, besides the fact that it just sounds horrible.

But thanks for throwing in your 2 cents.
It's just the way it is I guess.
I can still enjoy a foreign song but I won't enjoy it as much as a song I fully understand and I'm not really interested in looking foreign songs up because I will most likely prefer english artists anyway.
The song wouldn't be for me in any language it just doesn't appeal to me.

I've never understood it either. How can lyrics determine whether a song is good or not? Lyrics are not the melody, they are not the singer's tone, they are not the instruments, they're not the emotion... lyrics are not the music.
I'm often reminded of that typical way of dividing learning styles: visual, auditory and kinesthetic. There's probably also a way to divide musical enjoyment styles in such a way. For some people it's enough to only feel the music, on a pure sensory level. Others need words, they need the picture to be painted for them, to be able to maximize their enjoyment.

Makes sense I guess. It's just annoying that every music forum I go to has the same foreign aversion, whether it be from preconceived notions or the lack of the ability to prioritize what truly makes a full, completed song. I mean, I always assumed those dopamine chemicals would release no matter what as long as a song is audibly composed well, but I guess composition can be easily distracted from with a lack of english.
I mean, I don't expect people to be into kpop tartlets or jpop divas, but ie.) I don't understand how a jazz fan couldn't appreciate how much Shiina Ringo slays etc.
I don't understand how people can care about lyrics so much but at the same time stan for pop girls or Top 40 radio like there is a whole bunch of substantial lyricism there.
Anyways I can understand how listening to something you don't understand isn't appealing but you're missing out on tons of good music.
I can't even get what the songs in english are saying because I don't know that much about english
So I basically don't care. I grew up listening to english and spanish music (which I didn't understand at all) alongside my brazilian songs, so I'm very open to songs in other languages. I already experienced Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Italian, French, German and Russian alongside English and Spanish

I'm jealous. I've slowly been breaching outside of Japanese and Korean. Took me awhile to get used to Chinese but I found a couple of artists that I really helped with their accessibility.
Lyrics are the most important thing to me too but i still listen to foriegn acts and sing along too
I think its fun to sing in different langauges
Also im kinda glad somtimes i cant understand the lyrics to some songs cause theyre probs really cheesy and would ruin it for me (SNSD)

Girl their english lyrics alone are cringe-worthy, I will NOT be googling translations for them.
