On Monday it was confirmed that Sarah Michelle Gellar will be returning for The Grudge 2. Now, The Hollywood Reporter says she will have a more condensed role.
The trade reports that Gellar will return to pass the supernatural curse -- introduced in the first film -- on to the franchise's next lead victim, an actor to be cast soon.
"The union of Sarah's innocent girl-next-door persona and [director Takashi] Shimizu's twisted Eastern perspective should spawn another original and terrifying tale for the audience," said Sam Raimi, who is producing with Rob Tapert, his partner in Ghost House Pictures.
The sequel is set to begin shooting in Tokyo next month, with Columbia Pictures eyeing an October 20, 2006 release.
