Have you donated to charity? Do you often?

If so, what charities do you prefer to support? You can be specific with actual charities, or broad with overall topics of charities that you tend to support. With holidays coming up, remember that a gift to charity on behalf of someone else can be a fantastic and touching gift!

As well, are there any charities you do not give to, due to personal beliefs?

For example, I don't give to overly religious charities because they aren't aligned with my personal and moral beliefs. I also do not give to Canadian Blood Services due to their ban of blood donations from gay men.

Charities I DO support are anything education related (especially for students in low income areas), charities that support children in the arts, and First Nations charities (here in Canada). I have the personal belief that I'd rather help in my own country before I help a charity overseas - and that it's good to find a charity that gets less publicity than the bigger ones, because it likely needs my help more!

What about y'all? List specific charities if you like, that way people who are looking for new places to give can find them.

I generally donate to charities which are aimed at helping the Canadian Armed Forces, sick and abused children (such as SickKids), and Aboriginal peoples.

I find this sad, mainly because I feel the same way. I would love to donate to Canadian Blood Services but cannot find the will to do so due to their discriminatory policies.

Interesting. I ask this not to be shady, but because I'm actually curious: do you support it because your fave created it, or do you support it because you agree with the mission of the charity? Maybe both?

Native American organizations around NY and to Native American children sick in the hospital. My grandmother has been donating to them since the 60s-70s and now I do. I want to donate blood too but haven't done it yet. I've donated hair to Locks of Love a couple times though.

Both. I believe in the cause and I like supporting Avril so it's a win-win.

Mostly the Red Cross and anything related to cancer.

I'm broke,so I tend to donate my time/blood to the Red Cross and the Community Center in my town.
