These states are arguably some of the least desirable areas of the country. They are plagued with less-than-stellar reputations of being politically backward and void of any economic activity. Mississippi and Arkansas (especially the former) are afflicted with high rates of poverty, illiteracy, and disease. Racism, homophobia, and many other archaic beliefs are often a commonplace in both states. They are often an afterthought and are overshadowed by more desirable states such as Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida.
Which leads me to the question. Say you had a well-paying white collar job, but you either had to move to Mississippi or Arkansas to get that job. Where would you go? Would you go to Mississippi? Would you choose Arkansas? Or would you just be like "**** all that ****"?
