tl;dr version: Back in my day if you had a bullies, you either rolled with the punches, or whoop his ass. You got rejected, you pick yourself up and try again.

Nowadays these kids are making youtube videos and offing themselves.

Long version:

Let me open with a story.

When I was 13 I may or may not have looked something like this



And growing up, before this was "swag" this pretty much was enough to warrant a daily beat down, And you werent really a hit with the ladies either. Hell teachers were in on the action.

So after about... 2 years of the constant taunting, swirlies, garbage thrown at me, being aimed at with water balloons, slap videos, being chased, by a gang of older kids throwing overripe fruit at me, taking my lunch AND bus money, and being called pretty much every name under the sun, I decided to tell my father about what was going on. His response was simple. "The next person to lay a hand on you, to tell you anything, boy or girl... kick his ass."

And so the very next day at recess, like clock work, about three guys, brandishing tennis balls, walk up to me and calmly said, "Run." I pretty much knew that meant that those tennis balls wer emeant for my back, and so I ran. I ended up at the back of the music room when one of the guys caught up with me. With a big ass smile on his face, he launched his missile behind me, but missed. Now at this point I'm just about fed up and I grab an old chair leg that was nearby and wailed into his ass, and ended up breaking his forarm and two of his fingers, Ended up getting suspended for 2 weeks.

But when I came back, it was different. It stopped. no names, no swirlies, no rotten fruit. **** just stopped. Just fell back in like the last 2 years never happened. No one ever ****ed with me again. Apparently the solution was simple, show them youre not a pushover, youre not a *****, and theyll leave you alone.

Basically what I was trying to convey with this story was that **** from what I've seen has changed from my day. Like this year alone I mustve read about like 10 kids that killed themselves over stuff that's not half as bad as this. Like, what the hell changed? Is it the parents? is it society?

Hard to say. Bullying and outcast have always been there. So this whole "bullying" epidemic seems to be coined up by the media. I don't know what it is, but more and more you see kids trapped up inside and locking them selves from reality.

Tumblr is pretty much a huge example of this since a lot of the members there seem to glorify themselves as being "anti-social" and having no friends. I love Tumblr, since i have my own, but some of the people that use that site for some reason use it to lock themselves from reality.

I might have went of on a tangent there but, what I'm trying to say it we're making kids to trapped.

"Back in my day" How old are you exactly? And not really tbh. I mean, there are cases of bullying so severe that kids are being set on fire receiving multiple death threats, having naked pictures taken of them without them knowing and shown to the public, being stabbed, I mean it's a rough ****ing world out there. And becoming physically violent to the people who are being violent towards you doesn't always work and it really isn't the answer. I'm a girl who was made fun of by boys, you expected me to attempt to beat them up? One little girl against an entire group of boys? How would that work exactly? You cannot always fight back. Instead of teaching our kids how to deal with bullies, why not teach them not to be a bully in the first place.

Well first, let me say people take things differently. Second, that was an inspiring story.

But like at least you had your father at home and other people you could talk to. Also, it's way different for girls than boys.

Let me say that these anti-bullying campaigns are counterproductive at best. I don't believe that we can contain or eliminate bullying because we have been so conditioned to do so.

Well I'm 19 and I know exactly what OP's saying.
I do think bullying has gotten worse/more publicized. I'm glad for it. Some kids can handle bullying and learn from it. Then you have extreme cases were bullying leads to suicide and worse, cases like columbine.
But bullying doesn't end at high school. There will always be assholes everywhere, the key is to maintain a way to deal with bullies as well as teach people alternatives to deal with people they don't like without bullying them.

Society is different now so I don't know. I remember a bitch spit on me at recess and we was rolling all around in the sandbox. I was raised to not take **** from anyone. If someone said something to me first tell the teacher and if they don't do **** about it then you handle the **** yourself. Though I never necessarily had a problem being picked on growing up I did have people trying me and I just wasn't having it. I'm not a confrontational person but if you have a problem with me then you need to come to me and speak on that ****. I'm not here for games.

I hate drama, but every person has the right to defend themselves. I don't care if you're bigger than me. If you ain't got a gun or a weapon, I ain't scared of your ass.

People always say this about any generation younger than them.

At the end of the day it is just called change in society. It happens.

I believe this is where the problem lies.

By reprimanding the defender, you are sending a message that what they did is wrong.

They locking kids up now and trying them as adults, so I wonder if people are too afraid to really fk someone up out of fear of getting in trouble.

I would encourage a kid who is being bullied to stand up for themselves.

But generalizing kids today based on a few examples that got publicized is still wrong. Situations like yours still happen today all over the world. We just don't hear about it.

And I feel as though people perceive me as weak, although none of them have tried it. I've been wanting to kick ass for so long now. Just waiting for a bitch to try it.. even though I'm skinny as hell.

wat? I got bullied all through middle school and had an abusive father lmao, plus I'm gay and that does not help when your sister is homophobic. If these children go into the open world with these "everyone hurts me " attitudes they're gonna ~flop~.
