Ameriie Shares New Details on Cymatika in Facebook chat
Quote:
If you consider yourself to be an Ameriie fan, we’d say you’re in luck.
This is because last night, the ‘One Thing‘ wonder took part in a Facebook chat which saw her speak openly on her forthcoming LP ‘Cymatika’ and its supporting EP ‘The Prelude‘.
All the details below…
On the new project:
I’m still working on both the EP (‘The Prelude’) and the LP (‘Cymatika’) simultaneously, so I’m not sure when they will be released yet.
‘The Prelude’ is very hip hop soul, and ‘Cymatika’ has a sound that’s very eclectic, but it’s very cinematic.
Creating ‘Cymatika’ has been such an amazing experience because there are no creative boundaries; it isn’t genre specific at all, but it has a VERY distinctive sound.
The next record from ‘The Prelude’ is most likely going to be ‘Sing About It’, produced by the Buchanans, and hits so hard it ain’t even funny.
Even a rapper would have to come hard over that track. ‘Outside Your Body’ may end up being a bonus track somewhere, but it really depends what ‘Cymatika’ shapes up to be.
As of now, I don’t think it really goes with the project.
On the recording process:
For ‘Cymatika’, I’ve really been creating the tracks from the ground up, meaning I could wake up and have a song in my head, lay down some of it, and we start building the track from that. I know what sounds I want, and the drum patterns, and it goes from there. I always record in the pitch black.
I don’t start with a melody or words. It usually comes to me all at once, including the backgrounds and harmonies.
That’s why I have the fastest engineer on the planet. We have one-syllable code words so there’s no real break.
When I record a record, my feet tap the entire time because I have so much I have to get out. Once I’m in the booth, I stay inside for about 4 hours at a time without stopping. Then we break for about ten minutes to stretch and then get back to work.
Going onto add:
I love ‘Higher’. That’s initially where I thought the next project would be going, since that was where things started heading at the end of ‘In Love & War’. Warryn Campbell and I were in the studio talking, and I told him the direction I was going in.
I needed a dope, memorable guitar riff. Warryn actually plays the drums and the guitar, among other things, in addition to programming, so he just started playing different riffs on the guitar, and then I heard the riff and just started singing into the mic, no words written, no real thought. Just vibed and just started singing the story that was coming to mind as it came. Another record that I did with Brian Michael Cox was that way as well. It’s called ‘Mustang’ and will be on ‘Cymatika’.

YAY me too! I think God is gonna bless her, u know the quote, all things come to those who wait and Ameriie has been creating Cymatika for 4 years so I know she's coming back hard. I just love that she's finally incorporating her love for books and history into music because love can get a bit boring!

I'm so ready for this
Outside your body just grew on me a few weeks ago. I can't believe it took me almost 2 years for that to happen.

Well, she has been doing a lot of changes - to publicist, label (distribution), etc. She's also been doing research on finding new sounds and this album will discuss many issues and topics that are close to her heart. So I has to take time to nurture it. I think this is the album she's been wanting to make since Touch but label forced her to go another route.

Why wont she just move to korea and become a k-pop artist is beyond me. She's half black, so she has that "american" appeal that asians obsess over. Plus, her last album sold more in Asia than in America, if im not mistaken.
Anywho, Im excited. Her music catalogue is pretty good.

There was a rumor that she was going to work on a fluent Korean album but idk. And she wants to be an international superstar not just a Korean star. Her last album did very well in her home country and she didn't even promote it much. So she can focus on USA, Europe etc first then Asia. Her strongest markets are US and UK and there still is a following in Germany as well. I think she can do both, as well as breaking into Japanese market.

Well I figured this is going to sound extremely different considering how long she has been working on this. Still excited because judging from her discography she has a good ear for good beats and melodies. Any idea how much longer until at least the prelude?

I think the Prelude is done, back in April, she said there was only 3 songs to be finished so she should be releasing 'Sing About It' early next year with its digital and physical release shortly followed in the summer. But idk, she many wanted to cut more tracks. I think there may even be movie roles in the talks as well.
