FRANKFURT, Germany, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- A German woman said she was fined $327 for cleaning up bottles from a park entrance and placing them next to a recycling container.
Cornelia Gebhard-Schollwoeck of Frankfurt said the ground near the entrance to the playground near her home was filling with bottles because a glass collection truck was blocked by road construction, The Local.de reported Thursday.
"I was simply worried that children could hurt themselves," she said.
Gebhard-Schollwoeck told the Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper she gathered the bottles into garbage bags and drove them to a nearby glass recycling container. She said she left the bags next to the container after cutting her finger on broken glass.
However, she said she soon received a citation in the mail accusing her of illegal rubbish disposal, a violation bearing a $327 fine.
A spokesman for the city declined to comment, saying the case is ongoing.
