I'm reading communications & media at my university and aspired to work for the culture industry in the future. So far, none of my friends in the faculty has the same passion. I am looking for an internship next summer, maybe in the States or the UK.

I'm just wondering since we're all here for the music, the sales, the strategies... Did anyone actually consider to work for the music industry?

ye my dream is to be a song writer/producer i wanna be big in that field writing for the biggest stars but i dont want the fame that comes along with it theres to much dirt for them to dig up on me which scares me to death but im still gonna attempt to do it because if im honest thats the only career path that will make me truly happy

The music industry is a god awful industry. No thank you I have a friend who worked for Sony Music at one point and she said she hated it. It's very messy and very stressful.

YES. I wish I could be a songwriter - I think it could be so much fun, but at the same time...it could be stressful, when you have to "write a hit"...I feel it takes away from the fun of writing...we shall see.

Yeah fame is such a scary thing. You know, karma is a bitch. We are here criticising ppl from the industry and once we got in there, the people criticising us is none other than those like us in the past.

No. I went to school in Nashville TN (Vanderbilt University), which is extremely close to Music Row. A few of my friends have worked or interned for music labels or recording artists.

One of my friends does merchandising for The Civil Wars.

Living in Nashville, you do see a lot of people who try to make it into the business. I know this one girl who is working at a Starbucks while also trying to record demos and make small performances. I want to say she has passed her window of opportunity, but you never know .

I also knew of another guy who used to play for Kellie Pickler. He eventually lost that job and now works at Whole Foods serving food samples.

The song being a hit is mainly up to the producer/singer/managers...pretty much everyone except the song writer. Funny thing is if you plan on writing dance pop, the lyrics are next to useless

I still want to be a song writer, cause not only would l get a nice portion of money (if I became a high profile songwriter) but I would be doing something I (feel I) have talent in and enjoy!
