I'll explain it incase you don't know what it is and how it works.
Nuclear Energy is the use of sustained nuclear fission to generate heat and electricity with the use of a nuclear reactor, the device used to initiate and control a sustained nuclear chain reaction.
Nuclear reactors release incredibly large amounts of Radiation, the process by which an atomic nucleus of an unstable atom loses energy by emitting ionizing particles or "energy waves". Several protective barriers stop this radiation from escaping the reactor and the plant itself.
Despite all the protective barriers and security measures, accidents happen, and Radiation IS DEADLY.
It will pierce through you like millions of invisible knifes, destroying your cells and DNA, causing Cancer and other diseases, giving you a slow and painful death.
On top of being extremely dangerous and deadly, Radiation can spread several miles from it's source, threatening neighboring countries and even the entire planet, and it takes decades for it to completely disappear and fade away.
Example of Nuclear meltdowns:
Chernobyl Reactor
Fukushima Reactor
The effects of both of these accidents are still active to this day, and radiation is still spreading out of these reactors. There is no known way to stop Radiation from spreading or to stop it all together.
90% of the population does not know or care little about Radiation and it's effects on the world, and it is likely at this point, Radiation from both of these accidents has spread all over Europe and the West Coast of the United States, which would explain the increase of Cancer in the population. Radiation is also highly contaminant, and it will infect the food you eat, the water you drink, the things you touch, the very air you breathe.
The benefits of Nuclear Energy:
No harmful gasses are released to the atmosphere in order to create energy, unlike the burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas, which release harmful gasses that destroy the ozone layer.
So girls, is the price to pay for this type of energy too high, or will it benefit us in the future? Do you support it? Discuss.
Nope! In addition to the obvious threat from meltdowns etc., they harm the ecosystems of the water bodies where they pull their cooling water from (and then release it back into, warmer than it should be).
"Oh, we can't use Oil/Coal/Gas, it destroys the atmosphere!"
"Oh, we can't put a wind turbine there, it's ugly and might kill a birdy!"
"Oh, we can't put a wave machine there, something about fishes!"
"Oh, we can't use Nuclear, we might catch cancer!"
Should we just go and live in treehouses right now, or what?
I wont say I support it, but I wouldn't mind if Coal plants were replaced with Nuclear. The only thing is that they shouldn't be built in earthquake zones.
Yes, because it's better than coal and it's clean. The nuclear plants in the USA are a lot safer than other countries.
lol there's a nuclear power plant a few towns away from me. One of the oldest in the country, and it has gone FAR past its initial time period that it should've been allowed to operate with endless extensions... we're pretty much all waiting for it to fail -__-
Nuclear energy is probably to most powerful source of energy. It fuels the sun after all. But I don't support it because if a meltdown occurs, it's over. There is no stopping it. One issue that i value in this election is green energy (solar, hydroelectric, etc). People don't want to spend (sacrifice) for it, but if the world is ever to advance it is needed. Even if fossil fuels didn't ruin the environment, even they would be depleted at some point.

Correct, and that is why it is located in space 92,960,000 miles away from us. You'd think Humans would leave protons and neutrons alone.

I'm personally against it (there's no safe way to get rid of nuclear waste and the meltdown, no matter how low the chances are, are absolutely catastrophic), but I could understand why it's an option for some places. It produces lots of energy in a fairly compressed space and is "green"er than some traditional energy sources.
Edit: For everyone complaining about radiation, the earth gives off natural radiation. Your body has developed ways to protect itself If a meltdown occurred or you worked AT a nuclear power plant, you'd have reason to be concerned, but otherwise there would be NO EFFECT. If you're truly worried about radiation, refuse to take X-rays.
