Christina Aguilera to be honored at the State Department
Singer Christina Aguilera will receive the George McGovern Leadership Award at the State Department Wednesday for her contributions to fighting hunger around the world. Aguilera serves as a United Nations World Food Program Ambassador Against Hunger. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expected to speak. Past honorees include a number of lawmakers and business greats like Bill Gates and Howard Buffett.
David Novak, chairman and CEO of Yum! Brands Inc., will be honored Wednesday as part of the 11th annual George McGovern Leadership Award ceremony at the U.S. Department of State in Washington D.C.
The event is hosted by World Food Program USA in partnership with the State Department.
The ceremony highlights the contributions in the global fight against hunger made by Novak and Christina Aguilera, the United Nations World Food Program Ambassador Against Hunger. The ceremony is set to conclude with a special tribute to and remarks from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as a roundtable discussion between Aguilera, Novak and U.S. Agency for International Development administrator Raj Shah.
Novak and Aguilera have made considerable contributions to the fight against hunger through Yum! Brands (NYSE: YUM) World Hunger Relief campaign.
Yum! and its global spokesperson for the campaign, Aguilera, have raised nearly $115 million for the United Nation’s World Food Program and other hunger relief organization since 2007, according to a news release.
