So I am watching Mean Girls on MTV and they bleep the word gay..

Don't know.
It shouldn't, though.
I was surprised when I came to know that "bitch" isn't censored in the U.S. in daytime shows.

the word and I

using it to describe myself as a shorter word for homosexual, so its censorship gives me a sort of smug but hollow satisfaction.

The difference is that homosexual is a scientific and technical term not used derogatorily, so the censorship of it is actually pretty disgusting.
