was on every single magazine at that time! See, what Carter did here was use something called "sarcasm" which is defined as "the use of irony to mock or convey contempt".
Just in case you don't quite follow how that definition relates to this specific instance, I'll explain it! Carter said that everyone had "pretty much forgotten who [Britney] was before she was on our show" while Britney
was in fact almost inescapable to the general public during this time. In this instance Carter was using something known as "verbal irony" aka SARCASM! He was saying something, but he actually meant the exact opposite! Cool!
