Remember “Bennifer” and the box office disaster that was*Gigli?

Long before she was an American Idol judge, and back when current beau Casper Smart was still high school-aged, Jennifer Lopez dated actor Ben Affleck and was even engaged to him.*

In a new interview with "Details' magazine
, Ben discussed his latest film, titled, Argo, and also found time to dredge up his infamous romance with J.Lo.

In our culture, we get very much into shorthanding people. And I got shorthanded as That Guy: Jennifer Lopez, movies bombed, therefore he must be a sort of thoughtless dilettante, solipsistic consumer blahblahblah. It's hard to shake those sort of narratives. If you were looking at that one-liner on me in 2003, which was definitely the annus horribilis [laughs] of my life—it's funny how that rhymes with Sacha Baron Cohen's pronunciation of "ah-noose"...I made a bunch of movies that didn't work. I was ending up in the tabloids. I don't know what the lesson is, except that you just have to find your compass...And I just said, "I don't want to do it anymore. This is horrible. I don't want to be in this spotlight, this glare, in this way. It's tawdry, it's ugly, it's oppressive, and it's inane. So I'm going to try to get away."

People bring up 2003, and I get it. Jennifer Lopez, and Gigli, and all this **** just kind of blew up. But, you know, in 2003, Barack Obama was a state senator in Illinois! Okay?


and that's not all, he talks about how he isn't too fond of being a stay at home dad

“Anytime you think, ‘I’m wasting my time here,’ the first thought you have is, ‘I could go home and be with my kids,’” he says. “Now, you may go home and be with your kids and very quickly start thinking, ‘I wonder what’s on the work front?Because running around after three kids is very trying. Now everything has to compete with being with my family. I don't want to be a stay-at-home dad. Work is very important to me. I like to work. So does my wife. But I need my work to mean something to me in order for me to not be home with them.

“I am not very present in the rest of my life. My wife’s very patient. She does everything,” he shares. “If I have time, I try to spend time with the kids, even if just to be a physical presence, the bath, whatever.”

But even in the midst of his brood’s bathtime, Affleck is the first to admit his mind is often elsewhere. “My mind’s always going, ‘How are we going to light that show tomorrow? What’s the master shot for that scene? Is there even going to be a master?’” he says.

“Just ruminating endlessly. Because for me — I wish it was discipline or being a great artist. But it’s just anxiety.”

Jlo was definitely sprung on his ass. her song titled 'Ben' says all anyone needs to know of how deep she was into him. i always felt like marc anthony was her rebound from ben, to help her get over him or whatever.

but i don't believe she's still tripping off of Ben now. i think she has moved on. he needs to do the same and stop talking about her. everything that went on back then, he willingly went along with it. i remember he bought her a bentley and then she bought him a bentley...and then she paid r. kelly to come sing 'ignition' at his bday party...Ben was LOVING this shyt.

If you guys read the article a little more closely, you'd realize that he's not bragging about not being the most attentive father. He's just being honest about the conflicts his career causes in his personal life. He did say that if he's spending time away from his family, it has to be on a meaningful project in order to justify the abscence.

And I don't think he's trying to blame Jennifer for losing himself during that period with her. That's hardly what it comes off as, more like looking back on it with embarrassment. He's talking more about his acting taking a backseat to his public image due to some poor career decisions than about Jennifer. You guys are doing the most, taking everything he's saying out of context.

But didn't Jenny make him 100x more relevant?

We know he hates that year and the whole Bennifer thing, & i'm sure Jennifer does too, but he needs to stop bringing it up everytime he promotes his projects if he really wants the public to forget all about it.

the funniest things so far is that he is always the one to bring it up, not the interviewer. I wonder why he is complaining. He always comes across as bitter and spiteful nearly a decade later. I must have missed the part where Jennifer Lopez forced Ben to show up at Madre's opening to bring her flowers in front her then husband Cris Judd, buy the Bentley, give the interviews, etc. Didn't he do another interview where he said sex with J lo was wack and only last about 10 minutes tops. He needs to stop blaming others for his poor acting skills.

What kind of false ATRL delusion tea?

The reason Bennifer was such a huge deal back then was because she was one of the biggest pop stars at the time, while he was a popular A-list actor.
