This is something I have been wondering about for a while. A while ago I was on a Box Office forum for movies, and a group of members started a game where they all came up with their own movies and the people that made them, and it became a competition of how successful each would become. Each member who had created their own movie would write articles about their film from different perspectives of made up critics to generate buzz.
Each year in this game was run by one member who would look at the promo and hype of each film and would come up with the box office figures for it. Added on to this were awards shows, recognizing the most successful films.
Now you may be asking, what does this have to do with pop stars or music in general? Well, I've been thinking a lot about how fun something like I described above would be if we used music as a medium instead of movies.
Going off the top of my head, any member can create a celebrity and will describe the type of music that he/she makes, and will accompany it with articles and descriptions with the intention of generating hype. Members will also be responsible with molding the personality of their star or stars, and will have input when the game is running.
Once we get enough people doing this, we can start piecing them all together for the first year. Once that's done, someone will be chosen to determine the success of these stars throughout the year (album sales, promo shots, television interviews and performances, tour receipts, public perception, and of course a little controversy.) Please be reasonable with the numbers. It wouldn't make sense for an unknown star to suddenly have massive sales, or a well known diva to have extremely low sales. Such occurrences will only be allowed if there is a reasonable explanation for it.
This all won't be done entirely by one person. Specifically, if a member wants their star to cause a little controversy, it can be done by messaging the person running that year.
I know this idea is very much a rough sketch in my mind, but I've been thinking about this excitedly. Just imagine the fun in creating your own diva and battling each other for success in this manufactured music world.
If you're interested in this type of game, please say it below, and I'll add you to the list of people that want to participate. Also, if some people want to help me refine the rules and to get all the kinks worked out, I would greatly appreciate that.
Thanks, and hopefully I'll see you in the game.
