Its been this way since the late 60s. Many people blame Chet Atkins but without him than country radio would be like what rock and alternative radio is which means very few people listen to it. The real people to blame are the same country purists who complain about the sound of today because they refused to buy the music thus forcing Atkins to change the sound and now because of this none of the popular artists want to put out real country and because of this the people who listen on radio aren't familiar with that type of sound and for many don't want to hear it on the radio thus the songs flop.
